I’m going to admit something I haven’t before. I am unemployed, and I’m a doctor. I was downsized from the conglomerate that I worked for. I’ve been looking for a position for a year now. And because of the non-compete clauses in my contract I have to look WAY outside of where I live. I may have to leave the state. The recession IS hitting everyone. I thought I was bulletproof in my profession.

Are you a pediatrician by chance? My kids’ pediatrician was just diagnosed with a relapse of cancer and they are desperate for help.

Good luck and keep plugging away. This is insane that you get downsized and you have a regional non-compete?

It is brutal out there for everyone and no one is immune. Hang in there.

There is legal precedent regarding the uninforceable nature of noncompete agreements when an employee is put out of work by the other party to the agreement. There is no legal grounds for preventing you from working. It’s not worth the paper it’s written on, since they let you go. Had you left of your own volition, it would be binding.
