Syria has sought to overcome U.S. sanctions on the regime of President Bashar Assad and so, apparently, has the Obama administration. The State Department said it has detected Syrian efforts to bypass U.S. sanctions imposed on Damascus over the last decade. In a report, the department's inspector-general said the U.S. embassy foiled several of these Syrian attempts.
"The United States also was able to thwart several Syrian attempts to evade sanctions, thanks to timely embassy warnings," the report, titled "Report of Inspection," said.
But the State Department also said U.S. enforcement of sanctions on Syria has been muddled under the administration of President Barack Obama. The report said U.S. diplomats have failed to receive guidance on whether sanctions should be enforced or waived amid Washington's new policy of reconciliation with Damascus. "The most immediate issue requiring greater clarity concerns economic sanctions," the report said. "There is no front-channel guidance on the issue."
Over the last six months, the administration has approved U.S. exports to Damascus that appear to violate the 2003 sanctions. They include the transfer of Internet technology as well as the sale of aircraft parts.
The report, much of which was excised before its release, did not detail the Syrian efforts to overcome U.S. sanctions. But officials said the efforts included the use of Arab and European companies to acquire dual-use items from the United States and other Western countries.
In 2003, Congress imposed sanctions designed to ban dual-use exports to Syria. Since then, the White House has occasionally waived provisions in a move that allowed U.S. companies to develop energy resources in Syria, which appears on the State Department's list of terrorist sponsors.
"Reporting on economic sanctions, and the government of Syria's attempts to circumvent them, was superb," the report by deputy inspector-general Harold Geisel said.

Is this not illegal?
This is typical of any time the Left is in charge isn’t it.
With Clinton it was China, and dual use. He allowed the laws to be circumvented, and now this asshat Obama is protecting Syria, which one might as well simply acknowledge as Iran.
treason?
When Obama does it, it’s called diplomacy.
As if we needed more proof Oblunder was against Israel.
My hate and disgust for that MF-er seems to grow by the hour anymore.
Its treason and Obama can be impeached.
Laws only matter if a Republican breaks one. Liberal politicians break the law at will because they know it will never be brought to light by the media. At some point the MSM will become irrelevant but so much damage will have been done by then that the country will be unrecognizable IMHO.
What the hell?
I’ll bet that the “aircraft parts” are surplus F-14 parts for Iran.
Even Dr. Evil wonders, "... how does this guy get away with this stuff?".
It's also treason. Aid and comfort to the enemies of the United States.
But no one get punished for treason these days. Heck the Times Square bomber should be charged with it, having made war on the United States. But what do I know.
He could nuke Omaha and this Congress wouldn't impeach him.
Cute, post a link for a password “protected” website.
D Bag.
It is not too unusual to post a subscription only site.
I would post the whole thing if they increase my post limit
