Maybe they can re arrange their RINO Senators.
I thought Mayan was spelled different.
It’s a start - and a darn good one!
“Maybe they can re arrange their RINO Senators.”
How about eliminate their 2 socialist Senators!!!!
This is way too scary to contimplate!
and instead represented a set of values and principles that candidates could pick and choose from.
There’s your problem! When your State and National Constitutions are things you can pick and choose from.
Sweet! I see some very good things in that amendment! ESPECIALLY about being committed to the Constitution of Maine and the US Constitution. The part about State Sovereignty is awesome...
Congratulations to the hard-core Conservative Constitutionalists within the Maine GOP.
The comments from the establishment GOP members are very telling... Especially the one Representative that wanted to prevent it even being discussed! The comments from Snowe — well, what a surprise (NOT!).
ALL: THIS is how you affect change! REMEMBER — ALL politics is (ultimately) local(or in your state). What we do within our own states and in our communities WILL effect DC.
I pray that the Tea Party Movement will be able to affect these same changes across the country. It’s about time the RINOs became uncomfortable, and the GOP got back to the basics... May they all leave like Crist, because frankly, THEY are the ones that are making Conservatives lose elections (contrary to what the one delegate in Maine said). This is NOT political “suicide” this is what the nation wants — LEADERS who will respect the law of the land, not make deals and sell us out for their own personal or political gain.
We believe that English should be the official language of the State of Maine; and
· We support legislation that would require a photo identification to be eligible to vote in the State of Maine.
In a move that seemed to surprise many members of Maine's Republican Party, a group of tea party-style activists redefined the party platform at the convention Saturday.
Hopefully a lot of the professional party faithful will be surprised in the coming months.
Could somebody PLEASE CORRECT my spelling of MAINE.
It appears not only can’t I type; I can’t spell either.
Does anybody out there have an inside track to Glen beck or Drudge ?
I’m not understand what you are saying. Scary in a good way, or a bad way?
I don’t see where it says you can “pick and choose” from the respective Constitutions, but that the candidates and members must - rather than supporting UNCONSTITUTIONAL Bills as they (especially Snowe) have in the past - consider all of their actions as it relates to the respective Constitutions.
At least that’s what I got from the article (admitted I didn’t go read the entire platform as written).
Just FYI — If you hit the “abuse” button on your original posting it’s probably the fastest and easiest way to contact the mods to request a correction in the title and such. I see it’s spelled correctly now so I’m guessing they either saw your posting, or made the correction without asking? LOL Just thought this may help in the future. :)
OOPS — Forgot to tell you, I don’t know how to contact Glenn Beck, but I would assume that if you go to his website there is probably an email address for him or his producer.
I know on the far right column at Drudge Report there is a link to send him “tips”.
Hope this helps.
As to the last point you will have to read the rest of the article so you can see my reference, where Snowe makes the statement about picking and choosing what you stand for.
I have a copy of the platform in my email. Not freepmail but email.
Just day-um. I picked the wrong time to retire from activism. I was often a delegate to the state convention - I shoulda got involved this year. That would've been the best one ever...
But I'm a great-granny. I pretty much confine myself to writing as a conduit to get out my opinion now.
But I would've loved to been there for this one - especially to talk with Snowe and Collins to see what they think about this move.
THIS if the kind of ‘clam diggers* on the ground’ we need to take back the party, the Constitution, the country.
This is the kind of ‘from the ground up’ strategy the socialist/Marxists used to take over the Democrat Party.
In the spring of 1980, as an investigative reporter for a state wide paper, I infiltrated a NO PRESS meeting, held in a little church literally in the shadow of our state capitol dome, of the DSOC (Democratic Socialist Organizing Committee.)
Reagan had just whupped their hinies, and their white knight, teddy from Hyanisport, had not even won their party's nomination for that election. They had been poised on the precipice of victory and it had all gone down the drain.
The main speaker of the meeting was our then state Senate Majority leader. He stepped up to the podium, took a card from his pocket and said: “I, like you, am a card carrying Socialist...”
He went on to lament the losses and how they were now weakened to a point that they could not, as they had planned, come out publicly as Scoicalists. They would have to regroup and come up with a new strategy.
They outlined that as infiltrating and taking over the Democrat Party. The modus operandi would be to get into every village, town, city local party organizations and get elected to local party leadership and as delegates to the state conventions where they would have a major role in selecting and pushing candidates and platforms...and continue on up the political ladder.
Who can argue the success of their plan?
And this is the strategy that the Tea Party grassroots folk are - FINALLY - adopting. I am jumping for joy with this amazing success the very first year! If this carries thru’ a majority of states this year - look out Washington!
Pack your bags and get out of the way.
("*clam diggers" for you folk outta Maine - are boots used when clam digging and other mucky stuff.)
Way to go Maine!!!
LePage is the leading grass roots conservative running for Governor of Maine.
Here’s a link to the platform
Who’d believe it ?
Cool, I’ll go re-read the article - don’t know how I missed the connection between your comment and her quote... I guess it’s too early in the morning still! LOL Sorry about that.
I agree that it should be a given, and that having to reaffirm that in writing IS scary!
You're not picking up any bonus points in the grammar catergory either. :oP You need some more coffee.
Bennett, RINO from Utah, was thrown out of office by their conservative activists ONLY after their caucus demanded he be denied a place on the Utah GOP ballot.
Until the activists spoke up, it was going to be “business as usual” out there.
Just in case you missed this Maine Yankee...
Maine-iac7 posted Glenn and Rush’s email addys to write to.
Thanks Maine-iac! :)
Well, it doesn’t surprise me too much. I wasn’t expecting it, though.
Politics in Maine does not seem to always be smooth and polished. There are conservatives in Maine. The Republican Party is not particularly strong in Maine. Add those all together, and you can get that outcome fairly easily.
I’ve never been involved at a local level and I might now.
Cool. I take that to mean that word is getting out already? Very good if that’s the case!
Or, were you involved in the drafting/passage? If so, thank you and Congratulations!
THIS is exactly what conservatives need to do nationwide....take over the GOP from the inside.
“I believe that there are provisions in there that will scare off many independents who you need to win elections,” he said afterward. “It will make it very difficult for the majority of Republicans to win.”
Oh my, so now sticking to the Constitutuion will scare off independents? Then , so be it. We need to fight FOR the Constitution or go down trying. BTW, I hear Cost Rica is nice this time of year.
“Maybe they can re arrange their RINO Senators.”
Good luck with that. As a Maine resident, I would love to see the stimulus sisters kicked out of D.C. for good.
Come election time, however, the democrats run ultra-left wing moonbats against both Snowe and Collins. As a result, Snowe and Collins look conservative in comparison, which, on most issues, they are not.
It’s nice to see a return to the constitution and rejection of progressivism. The awakening of the American Spirit has truly begun and marxism is on the run.
In the Territory of Conservative Stalwart Olympia Snowe? Shocking!
Literally a self-made man who worked his way up - now manager for Marden’s and Mayor or Waterville.
“People say you can't run a state like a business. I tell them that's baloney.”
Motto: “If it is to be, it's up to me”
If we win with this platform and this man for Governor - it will be a paradigm shift that will push the socialists off the cliff...
(Did you read item “j” of the Platform? I can hear the career politicians choking in horror ;o)
There are still a LOT of conservatives in Maine - but the 'big cities', particularly Portland, have been, over the last 40+ years, infiltrated by liberal flatlanders. They have taken over the 'cities', the largest of which would be, with about 62,000, considered a 'town' in most states.
During the '08 election, I took a trip 'up home' from I now live to further north in the state - a long rural route.
There were, of course, election "flowers" on lawns everywhere - but I saw only ONE for obama/biden.
Problem has been that conservatives respect individual rights and therefore tend to live and let live.
That is how the libs, who think it's their right, due to their self perceived superiority, to chose what is right for all of us, get the upper hand.
They didn't factor in that, although conservatives tend to be mellow, there comes a tipping point where they say: "That's enough." and come out swinging.
We have reached that tipping point - FINALLY
When asked about the evident rise of the Tea Party Movement in Maine, Snowe said that it was important for the state's Republican Party to work together.
"People are angry, and understandably so," she said. "The question is how do you channel that anger to be effective and successful at the polls?"
Two points: I can't recall any time in the last forty years that the Republicans have controlled the Maine Legislature; and what I've seen of the Maine party to date doesn't make me think that if they did control the Legislature they'd do anything with it besides extend the benefits of Big Government to an additional set of clients.
So, contra Snowe's implication that the changes are problematic, they may help Republicans to win and, more importantly, give some point to winning. They certainly aren't going to make the party any less effective.
Maine Republicans should “pick and choose” from among the Senate candidates—choose to send the “pickers and choosers” like Collins and Snowe into retirement, like Nevada Republicans did with Bennett. What a line from Snowe: “I spit on your grassroots changes to the platform, I don’t need your stink’n new platform, rubes, I’ll do what I please and you can just pound sand” is what she and her “veterans” are saying.
The grass rooters should shovel it back in her face.
Section j should have made Collins and Snowe’s heads explode. LOL
Maine, of all places. RINOs have been chucked in the trash.
Snowe’s opponent was a nobody, and Tom Allen ticked off the wrong people so Collins won by default.
> Maybe they can re arrange their RINO Senators.
Maybe they can remove their RINO Senators.
I don’t know Maine anywhere near as much as you do. I’ve been here a short time. And some of the stuff here is crazy.
I really do think that the Democrats want to completely depopulate most of the state, turn the land over to the Nature Conservancy, and they’ll end up using it for themselves.
What is this “stewardship” idea? What are “stakeholders”?
It seems like when anybody wants to do anything, there’s a long fight with Leftists who have apparently become “stakeholders” in something or other.
And what is this whole wild nature obsession?
Anyway, I really like the new message from the Maine Republican Party.
Maine isn’t really the place to start with the removing of the twin RINOs. If you can tell me that you can identify people with the right conservative ideas, a sufficiently credible track record of accomplishment, a reasonable amount of charisma, debating skill, etc., I’d say great, go for it.
Maybe first it might be better to get a Conservative in as a US Rep or as Governor. There are 2 US Reps that are Democrats and a Governor that’s a Democrat. Get a Republican as a Congressman, have him contest Snowe maybe.
Maine really isn’t overflowing with political talent. Sure, Chief Justice Roberts summers about 10 miles away, but that’s not what I mean. The year round population of Maine is actually shrinking. There are less than 1.5 million people here. Michaud is a pretty popular Dem Representative in District 2, but District 2 is the more rural, Northern, Eastern of the districts, and that really should be a Republican district, or at least it would be easier to win than District 1, which contains Portland. If there’s a strong young political talent, shoot for District 2. Maybe it’s Levesque. I haven’t really paid attention.
LePage for Governor, but he isn’t the charisma machine that Palin is. He’s right on the issues though.
Was just speaking with one of the delegates. This convention had been shaping up to be a tired exercise in party politics but the conservatives energized the crowd and stomped all over the establishment.
LePage is a great candidate. Low key but has a lot of strength and a groundswell of grassroots support. Compared to him the rest of the field is out to lunch.
Snowe has a primary opponent.
Do I agree with everything re: Collins, No but also I have enough respect for her to know she knows more inside information than reported.
Bennett is a whole different animal...
Otten has done the most for Maine over the decades. Don't believe all you read in the Kennebec J by one columnist [easily identifiable] or reporter or whatever he is subjectively googling up biased blog commentary running coincidentally a Mills banner running on top of the page where ever he may travel.
Good to check the outside posts, of the Maine news media writers when they focus on one or two individuals in the race. Seems outside their daily stories they wander off into blogs to show their real biases. Course most Maine paper, but for the local town news, are only fit for wrapping fish.
Seek and ye shall find.
Ayuh!...and Mainer English. 97% of Maine is white. Lowes or whatever that Home Depot competitor is (never shop there) is the only one that puts Spanish on their signs which they do across the country. Maine is made up majority of French Canadians--logical as geographical and would be helpful to our northern vacationers if any other languages were used in Lowes for instance that it be just that-French Canadian under Englsih. English being spoken in Maine is not an issue. Graduating students #1 to go on to college #2 and return to work in Maine #3 is an issue.
Presently a racist white supremacist group is actively seeking recruits in Maine. That makes me laugh as well--this is Maine not Duke country.
Most ignore the hype in the media on this group hiding under aliases contacting the local media for free advertising and the local media eating it up.
Jobs in Maine is a priority. November will see a change on the state level of decades re: Democratic control.
Obama's legacy will be to have destroyed his own party from within. Take note of Britain's recent election and we will follow suit.
Well, Otten isn’t Mills. Mills is an out and out Liberal.
Poliquin is also awful.
But the true conservatives in Maine, the grass roots, the tea partiers, support LePage. LePage is right on the issues, has a inspiring Horatio Alger story, and successful management experience as Mayor of Waterville, where he cut taxes year in year out and as General Manager of Mardens - a successful retail chain. No failed ski resorts on his resume.
I get most of my Maine political news from As Maine Goes - which is sorta like the Free Republic of Maine.
You know nothing about me but presume that I’m a Hannity groupie (which would be uproarious if you actually knew what I think about Hannity). You have no idea what my connections with Maine are.
I know more than enough Mainers who don’t think life begins and ends with Bath Iron Works. And who don’t like the way she singlehandedly at crucial moments pulled the rug out from under her party in Congress.
But love your lady as you please. No skin off my nose.
This might be of interest to you if you are thinking SR failed and are posting it as so.
As you know that is an outright lie..and I know for a fact. Who helped put that out there is, in part, a member of the media. I tracked his posts outside of the paper he writes for. He knows who he is.
Mardens, never go there for any reason. Reny's I may from time to time. Lewiston/Auburn (Somalia immigration news) is a depressed area and has been for decades.
And As Maine Goes there as been some very misleading info reported so spend no time in there anymore. Have heard calls into Maine morning local talk saying they are from that site with just plain lack of facts in thier comments, not worth my time. It cannot be compared to FR in anyway!
"[and I quote from their news letter & first hand knowledge:] "Otten for Governor campaign issued the following statement in response to a negative TV ad started this morning by gubernatorial candidate Bruce Poliquin:
We are greatly disappointed with the false, negative tactics carried out by the Poliquin campaign, especially after his statements promising a positive campaign and who said, there is no place for this kind of attack ad in our race" said campaign manager, Edie Smith.
In addition, Poliquins campaign ad is filled with inaccuracies. There are specifically three false statements made in the ad. The truth is: American Skiing Company (ASC) did not file for bankruptcy; the NYSE did not delist ASC for fiscal mismanagement; and, Les Otten was not forced out as CEO.
The biggest falsehood in Poliquins negative TV ad is that jobs were lost. Sunday River is thriving. And the jobs are all still there. All people have to do is look at those mountains and know what Les Otten has done for tourism and the economy of Western Maine.(as Rush is famous for saying at this time: "Right On!" Right On" ) Les Otten is a real world leader whos created over 1,200 (plus) jobs that are still there, she added.(end of quote)
Actually there were many more jobs within the surrounding areas from the growth over the years of SR. We are not even counting builders, services to the mountain from small start up business. Low taxes in Newry because of the success of SR, etc..the Handicap skiing program he helped start for disabled children/adult skiers. His restaurant, The Phoenix, across from South Basin on the house/lot he owned.
Maine needs someone who had contacts outside of Maine and Otten has that. There is a Peter Principle in business as well..you grow then stop and stay horizontal..living off one achievement in life. It's tougher to go on and achieve many business success stories.
Soft spoken man who will stay the course on Jobs. Jobs is the most important issue facing Maine's economy.
Les put together the group of owners for the Red Sox and they went to the championships. He then developed an energy business that put people back to work as well.
(Disclaimer: I was an owner at SR up until recently and what a great investment it was $$$$$$$$$)with thanks to Otten. He has made jobs for many families that I know. I wish I was still involved financially. Life changes..but life is good at the same time!
I have offered my support and hope for his success come Nov.
We can agree we need consevative values in Augusta but we need a leader with a strong background of buiding successful business from scratch, someone who listens, and gathers those around him that are highly successful as well.
He's probably a very nice guy personally and gives of himself financially as well to those that fight for our Freedoms..but I go back to my opening sentence.
But sometimes an unpopular stand overshadows the rest of a person's performance. No one said life began and ended with BIW. As I said the fishing industry which is an ongoing struggle as for lobesterman as well.
Perhaps another global business will be added as well-time will tell.
