Two things stand out here.

One, that it’s an *evening* care facility. Where are these kids’ parents? Why aren’t these kids being fed at home—and how much do they see their parents?

Two, that it’s a *vegetable* lasagna dish. The article did not indicate whether this just happened to be on the menu, or if the facility only provides vegetarian food. While an adult may be able to survive on a vegetarian diet, kids need a balanced diet. Brain development can be permanently affected by an unbalanced diet.

Vegetarian children around the world will be surprised to hear that they aren’t eating a balanced diet.

A balanced diet does not have to include meat or dairy. Oh, and adult vegetarians and vegans do more than just “survive” on meatless eating plans. You realize that many Christians in this country go meatless during Lent, right? Are they eating unbalanced diets? No, they are just eating a diet that omits meat.

The rest of your post makes sense - what the heck are these kids doing getting a dinner? Where are the parents? If they are poor enough to be at or below the poverty level, they probably have food stamps. Their parents should be making dinner at home. And shades of Newt Gingrich - parents who get food stamps and don’t feed their kids should have their kids removed from the home.
