A 25-year-old law student robbed of his cell phone on a Red Line train believes the incident had everything to do with his high-tech phone and nothing to do with a hate crime, contrary to what Chicago police had suggested earlier today.
Five teenagers were charged in connection with the overnight robbery on the L.
After a night of studying ahead of final exams at DePaul University, the victim -- who asked that his name not be publicized out of concern over retaliation - said he boarded an inbound train for his North Side home.
When he noticed the group of teens already on board, he sat with others on the other end of the train car. As he tapped away on his touch-screen smart phone, he noticed that the group seemed to edge closer and closer to him. As the group exited the train at the Grand Avenue stop, one of teens tried grabbing the phone from the victim, which led to a momentary back-and-forth struggle, he said.

Does every inter-racial crime have to be a hate crime? Not that it should make any difference. They stole his phone, whether they called him a honkey jew cracker or whatever in the process is irrelevent....
On the contrary, we know the Jew gang member (distinguished by the small cap on his head displaying gang colors) had swindled many innocent blacks out of the fruits of their welfare checks and food stamps, and purchased the cell phone WHOLESALE, the cad. So there was not even a crime here, just rightful reappropriation, and police racial profiling.
Good point - the whole “hate crime” thing is a bit ridiculous, but it is frustrating to see it be a one-way PC ratchet. Blacks mug the Jewish white guy - nothing to see. White guys mug a black guy - presumptively a “hate crime”. God forbid the victim is gay too, then we’re in overdrive.

As we ALL know by now, hate crimes - by definition - can ONLY be committed by White people.
I always play with my expensive electronic toys late at night on public transportation when there is a gang of youths nearby.
What is his problem? He just had a little wealth sharing. If he didn’t want to redistribute the wealth he should have driven his car to school
