NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Stocks continued losing ground Friday, despite an onslaught of more or less promising economic figures, as eurozone concerns continued to linger
----snipet> In Europe, the euro dwindled to its lowest point since 2008, in part, on an overseas news report saying French President Nicolas Sarkozy had threatened to pull the country out of the euro. That report was later denied by Sarkozy's aides.
-----snipet> The Commerce Department said retail sales rose 0.4% in April from March growth of 2.1%. The increase was better than the 0.2% uptick that the market had been expecting, according to consensus figures provided by Briefing.com. Excluding autos, sales still rose 0.4% in April, which slightly missed the 0.5% rise projected by analysts.

Aside from that, how did you enjoy the play Mrs. Lincoln?
Eurozone becoming the Twilight Zone.......................
Sarkozy obviously didn’t mean it. He threatened, in effect, to pull out of the EU in order to save the EU—because the EU IS FRANCE, before any other country.
But there was that anonymous, unsubstantiated rumor that Germany might pull out of the EU. I think Germany only joined because France blackmailed them: Join the EU and we’ll cover you for all that wicked NAZI past of yours. But Germany is NOT happy about wrecking their economy to save the feckless Greeks and others, and Merkel’s government may be brought down because of that anger.
And I read that the Germans are buy gold, that may be the spike in volume and prices we are seeing.
to paraphrase and old joke.......
You know the difference between a good friend and an idiot? A good friend will bail YOU out of jail; an idiot bails out your whole country with his credit card.
Austria just said their mint is about to run out. I belive in Dubai? they just installed ATMs that dispense gold; I think the Germans were talking about doing the same to meet the demand.
Yeah, a hotel in Dubai just installed a gold-plated gold dispenser in their lobby.
Someplace in the Great Beyond, Leonid Brezhnev is smiling and laughing...
