You know there are three republicans running in the primary for this seat right?

Why can’t Hayworth debate the other guy instead?

Well, Juan, now that you’ve become one of the toughest border enforcement advocates in US history, do you any circumstance in the future where you’d again support a pathway to citizenship for the 15 - 20 million illegal aliens in the US?

Not sure JD should show up, but some of his most determined supporters definitely should.

Why is Juan hiding from JD like a scared rabbit? JD just made the same debate proposal to Juan that Juan once made Obama.

I just find it kinda weird that Hayworth isn’t pushing to debate both Deakin and McCain? Do you believe that’s fair to Deakin?

I don't know anything about Deakin. I'd say if he has a reasonable level of support (10% - 15% or more), then he should be included in any debates. But if he's just a dreamer with practically zero chance of winning, then he shouldn't be included. - That's roughly how most debate participants are usually included or excluded.

Well why doesn’t JD just round up a bunch of video on McCain’s attempts to get Obama to debate???

Didn’t McCain use Obama’s debate evasion to his advantage?

JD should shove it right back in his face.

Because they don't want to legitimize JD's campaign by accepting a debate invite. Dem's do the same thing as well. SOP for the old school, out of touch politicians.

Supposedly Deakin’s campaign said he submitted enough signatures to qualify for the ballot. Deakin should be allowed to any debate for the seat.

I think it's because Juan is being such a total hypocrite and liar on the border issue, going from one of the biggest amnesty advocates in the country to pretending that he's now all for tough border enforcement and won't even talk about amnesty.

JD could nail him to the wall in public on that and other issues if they debated. That's why Juan won't debate unless he later calculates that his refusal to debate is hurting him worse than a debate would.

Not unless the opinion polls show he has some decent level of support. It's become common practice to exclude minor candidates who only have support in the single digits from most debates. It's a waste of time to allow people in who have no support, and no chance of winning.

Yes, it sure is. Democracy gives the vote to citizens of the required age, and it also requires that candidates win the approval and support of the voters. If a candidate doesn't have some minimal level of support when they qualify to be on a ballot, they shouldn't be treated as if they actually have significant support among the voters when it comes to debates and media coverage.

Do you also think all candidates should receive the same amount of media coverage? Maybe laws to require that?

Cowardly?

Nah, refusing to debate is the smartest thing he’s done since accidentally bringing Palin on board.

The trailing or weaker candidate is always the one demanding debates. The leading candidate has little to gain and everything to lose.

The leading candidate has little to gain and everything to lose.

And in McCain's case, a record he's running from like a scalded dog. And he sure doesn't want a public debate with radio and TV coverage where a strong challenger would point out his long list of flip/flops and election year conversions and attacks of amnesia.

And I'd say McCain is definitely a political coward. Debates between the leading candidates have become pretty standard part of the political scene for statewide and nationwide races. McCain is hiding from his record, and doesn't want it discussed before a large, statewide audience.

I doubt McCain is ashamed of his record nor is he hiding from it.

IMO he’s playing strategy, nothing more, nothing less.

I wouldn’t expect any candidate with a 20 point lead to accept a debate, let alone one with a slim lead and facing a lot of anti incumbent sentiment.

Of course the challenger calls it cowardice...until he’s the entrenched incumbent! LOL

“I doubt McCain is ashamed of his record nor is he hiding from it.”

I never said he’s ashamed of it. He might be (privately) proud of it, but he’s definitely hiding from it. He’s so serious about hiding from it that he’s abandoning much of it and doing a major flip/flop and pretending to be for tough border enforcement.

He’s actually trying to make much of his past record on immigration disappear from the voters. And that’s why he’s a coward and refuses to debate JD so far. JD will bring his record out into the open before a major audience of the voters.

McCain isn’t the type of man to be ashamed of what he did when he thought he was right.

At this point I’m sure that he knows what he’s done is unpopular and not winning him any votes, but based on years of him proudly going against the flow when it didn’t cost him anything, he isn’t ashamed of anything, just pragmatic about finding a way to win or keep from losing.

If you think McCain has shame like normal people then you don’t know anything about him at all.

Anyone who can turn his back on POWs and their families like he did can have no shame.

Your post to me is nonsensical. I certainly never said McCain was ashamed of anything. I said the opposite. You just had some things you wanted to say, but they certainly are not responsive to my post.
