Her comment is irritating but I chalk it up to her being classy and playing up the one silver lining she can see in it. Laura may not be a rock ribbed conservative but there’s no way she’s genuinely enthusiastic about a hard core lefty like Kagan.

Sorry, I disagree.....I think W was CONSERVATIVE and she is a LIBERAL, and since she never wanted to be in politics, he catered to a TON of her wishes.....YUK!! She should have kept her mouth shut!

>>but there’s no way she’s genuinely enthusiastic about a hard core lefty like Kagan.>>

And your opinion is based on... what?

The job of the Bush wives has always been to wink and whisper to social liberals that they need not worry about their liberal causes. Their husbands’ may express conservative leanings to placate the conservative base, but never actually act upon them. Conservatives are addicted to being saps.

I am totally familiar with this nominee’s politics. And I say that Mrs. Bush was reacting to the fact that he nominated a woman — as we were going to get a socialist either way. This nominee is no worse than whomever else Obama would have nominated.

But what do you think an ex-President’s wife was going to say - “Well, in all honesty, I think she’s a dirtbag?”

Why does this surprise anyone? That whole family was never conservative. The years of the Bushes running the GOP have been a squandered chance to remake America. They are Rockefeller Republicans. Why shouldn’t their wives be too?

Am through with Laura. I think the only one in that family that stand her ground no matter what is Barbara and their daughter...Dubya’s sister. Cant think of her name. so, how come if Laura feels so strong now ..l. why didn’t she speak out while George was in power? She didn’t want him to lose votes. They are ALL the same. In it for themselves no mater who it hurts...even innocent unborns.

it would have been honest.
I watched this and thought she had parkinson’s her head kept nodding like a bobble head doll.

I used to have great respect for her, but she is curing that.

Come on, I’m actually more a fan of hers than most of you, but even I know you can’t look ecstatic through that much botox.

You think a former first lady is incapable of telling the truth is a better way than you describe?

And Laura did - she spoke her mind.

Seems like to some what is important is ‘gender’ or ‘race’. The right person for the job has taken a back seat.

For as much as I've learned in the past few days I disagree with Laura, she's still one of the best First Ladies in recent memories and makes the current one look like a moron.

That said, it worries me so when women use gender in this way. I've had the same criticism of Sarah Palin. Playing the gender card isn't any different than playing the race or religion card- all of which are intellectually dishonest and at odds with conservatism.

Laura Bush, Michelle Obama, Rosalin Carter, Betty Ford, Hillary Clinton - I think all presidents should be like James Buchanan.
