Man, 22, turns himself in after girl says she had relationship with him

ODESSA, Texas - A 22-year-old man accused of posing as a high school basketball star in West Texas was charged with sexual assault Friday after an underage girl reported having sex with him last summer when she thought he was a teenager, police said.

Guerdwich Montimer was arrested for the third time in four days, this time after a 16-year-old girl in Odessa told police and school district officials she had sex with him at a home in August when she thought he was 15-year-old Jerry Joseph, said Odessa police Cpl. Sherrie Carruth.

Officials said Montimer enrolled at a junior high school and later at Permian High School last year with a fake birth certificate from Haiti. Suspicions were raised recently after coaches at an amateur basketball tournament said they recognized Joseph as Montimer, a 2007 graduate of a Florida high school and a naturalized U.S. citizen from Haiti.

Montimer was being held in jail Friday on a $50,000 bond, according to a court affidavit released Friday.

Montimer was originally arrested Tuesday on a misdemeanor charge of failure to identify himself to a police officer, and school officials said he admitted that he wasn’t Joseph. He was arrested again Thursday on a third-degree felony charge of tampering with a government document.

A jail official said Friday there was no information about whether Montimer had an attorney. The sexual assault charge, a second-degree felony, carries a sentence of two to 20 years in prison and a fine up to $10,000.

Based on information provided by the girl,

Ohhhhh...I get it. Sex with a 16 year old, OK. Find out he’s a few years older, and all of a sudden what YOU chose to do with him isn’t okay anymore.

WHOA. Now who is the dummy here?
(or were the DUmmies?)
From the Chicago Slum-Times (May 12):
"Authorities say the boyish-looking 22-year-old posed as a 16-year-old sophomore phenom .... Pipes and some teammates approached the 6-foot-5 player they knew as Joseph soon after he enrolled last year, asking him if he wanted to play football.

Okay class, now how many people would think that someone who is 6'-5" is only 16 years old?

Anyone?

Bueller?

Bueller?

Ferris Bueller?

[now 19 yo and a HS Sr, 'possible'. but 16? They'd have to be a MORON to buy that.]

Thought it interesting that the young lady was so sensitive to the age question. An "underage guy" was OK in her way of thinking, but not an "overage guy".

She's definitely a skank no matter how old she is eh.

Amazing how some people make their career choices so young!

Now, now, clam down.

Being 6'-5" when you are only 16 is not normal. Not for kids of any race. Maybe Manute Bol, or Shaq was that tall at 16, or 'Andre The Giant' (who died from his disease) but I know Dennis Rodman one of the best Power Forwards ever wasn't that tall at 16. He topped out at 'only' 6'-8" 'officially', though I think he was wee bit taller.

And If I'm a HS Coach I want see a Birth Certificate(1) for that 16 yo kid who is 6'-5", and a Blood Test for Steroids or other Growth Hormones.

(1) Even a 'short form certificate' like Obama's would do.

my brother is 6’4” tall, my nieces, the sisters of the 6’5” tall kid are 5’11”. this is NOT abnormal, they are not freakishly tall. i don’t have encyclopedic knowledge of what the respective heights of various basketball players were at various ages, but i do have anecdotal knowledge of heights of teenagers as my KIDS are teenagers [my kids have a short dad and apparently my genes did not prevail in the height category] as are their friends. it is not abnormal, especially if you spend any amount of time around basketball playing boys, because these tall ones will invariably play basketball.

This 22 yr old man should be put away. No doubt.

But didn’t Obama just allow children to stay on their parent’s insurance until 26 yr of age?

I’m just sayin’.......

What, are you kidding? There's LOTS of high school kids 6-5. I have a nephew who at one time was 6-11 and weighed 300 pounds-in the 7th grade!

"With apologies to The Boss, he was just reliving the Glory Days."

And as a pedo, he found himself in a target rich environment. When this story broke, the first thing I worried about was how many under aged girls he victimized, how many parents did he fool when he showed up at their door, smiling and ready to pick up their daughters for a date? Does anybody believe he did this just to play B-ball and sit in class rooms all day, and that this girl will be the only one to come forward?

I have a friend (who is 6’9” tall, and his wife is about 6’); they have a son, who was 5’4” tall at 7 years, and 6’7” at 13 (with flaming red hair!).

No offense but your 'misthinking'(1) my term of 'normal'. By that I DON'T mean 'abnormal', I mean normal as in 'average'.

Like back during the early 1800's the 'average' or 'normal' height for a man was about 5'-6" to 5'-7". And is why there's confusion about Napoleon being 'short'. The French used a different standard for feet and inches which was shorter than English measurements. So in fact he was of 'normal height' for that era.

And I once saw a Union Civil War Uniform in the old Main Chicago Library's History Section, it was so 'tiny' it would have fit a typical 12 yo of the 1960's.

So please clam down I'm not calling your family abnormal. I'm saying its not the average height for a teen that's all.

And no I don't hang around with Basketball Players.
Nor do I watch Gladiator Movies(2)

(1) I like using 'Bushisms', every now and then, It ain't proper English but gets the point across.
(2) gratuitous reference to the movie 'Airplane'

I'm not saying it's impossible, I'm saying its not 'typical' as in 'average'.

Of course there are TALL kids, but with a 6'-5" 16 yo I want to see a BC if I'm a School Coach.
