Sarah Palin's Political Bandwagon Is wobbling Under The Weight of Contradictions [Fiorina Backlash?]

Sarah Palin's Political Bandwagon Is wobbling Under The Weight of Contradictions The Sarah Palin phenomenon is finally beginning to fade as contradictions mount up, says Alex Spillius in Washington

Alex Spillius 15 May 2010

We are seeing the first signs of wobble on the Sarah Palin bandwagon. This may seem a strange thing to say about a political superstar who has earned at least $12 million in the past 18 months from a publishing advance, personal appearance fees and a television punditry contract, not to forget a reality show about life in Alaska.

Palin is such a boon to the struggling book world that her second opus, America by Heart - Reflection on Family, Faith and Flag, can already be ordered in advance even though publication is six months away. A return to the number one spot on the best seller list surely awaits.

But other indices are proving less kind to the former Alaska governor. According to a recent poll more Alaskans than not think the presidency should not form the next chapter of Palin's extraordinary story, while 45 per cent gave her a negative personal rating. When John McCain plucked her from obscurity to be his Republican running mate in the 2008 campaign, her approval rating at home was 80 per cent, the highest of any governor in the country.

Now even a poll of Tea Party supporters, her most ardent fans, showed that a majority wouldn't vote for her if she ran for president in 2012. It is not just that the faithful are beginning to question her readiness for the White House.

Guns - Sarah supports guns more than any candidate in recent memory and yet you fall in line with those gun grabbers with PDS trashing her. Try this on for size

If there are any more conservative members of the Senate than these two Oklahomans, then please tell me who they are. Yet, you and others focus on Ms. Palin while neglecting other prominent conservatives who have endorsed Fiorina tends to be quite revealing.

There is no better ongoing, active spokesperson for conservatism today than Sarah Palin. She’s not perfect; nor or her endorsements (I disagreed with her Perry/McCain endorsements). But neither are you or I. Don’t be a surrogate for flaming libs and the dinosaur media. If you aren’t for Fiorina, fine, then don’t vote for her, but don’t be a trasher/hater of Ms. Palin. You don’t have to be for her for prez, but you do need to check the accuracy of your litmus paper.

Wait a minute. I like Sarah, and especially her support of gun rights. Don't take my criticism of her support for Carly Fararinainianora (can't pronounce her name, might as well spell it wrong too) as outright condemnation of Palin.

LOL, you mean like the RonPaul kooks...lol...they are not feared as much as laughed at.

Paul? He was not ignored. It is the Reaganites who are ignored.

“i bet my Palin dance card is bigger than your’s.”

Good for you. If you’ve read her book and kept up with her postings and appearances you know she is a real conservative with the most appeal to conservatives that has the best chance to beat Myth Romney.

“Paul? He was not ignored. It is the Reaganites who are ignored.”

Reaganites are backing Palin. Including Reagan’s son.

But it isn't just criticism, it's pure hate.

That may happen on occasion; but in my experience, I usually get dumped on if I disagree with anything Palin says or does. On a thread the day after Scott Brown's election, I criticized her appearance on Greta's show. I thought Palin came off as unprepared during the phone interview. I did not say anything at all hateful about her. You would not believe the attacks that came my way. Some Palinistas have an outright crush on the lady.

I think the over-the-top defenses of Palin by some of her adoring fans just leads to more rancor.

“I think the over-the-top defenses of Palin by some of her adoring fans just leads to more rancor.”

Palin is the most attacked conservative in the media, by the elites of both Parties, and now here at FR.

Every word or any ambiguity is assumed to be the worst on this site.

What candidate has been picked apart and “opposition researched” on FR the most?

Romney?

No Palin. I find it odd that the most conservative potential 2012 candidate that has at least moderate support, is the most attacked on FR.

That is not about reasonable critique.

Are you serious?! When have you ever seen anything but criticism of Romney on FR? Jim Rob even started a thread on how unacceptable Romney is.

Old news. That was last election.

I have seen very little regarding Romney’s 2012 run lately.

...and if the best conservative gets knocked out...or conservatives stupidly divide again...

Romney wins in a runaway.

LOL. You’re the one who brought up Romney. PDS exists alright. It exists on the Palin side.

So, you ask for reasonableness...but what you really want is for the attackers of Palin go without being responded to.

Good luck on that.

Romney is relevant because he will benefit with the conservative vote divided...but you knew that, right?

Neocon has become a codeword for anybody that:

1)supports a strong national security policy

2)supports our ally Israel

Mostly from RonPaul loons.

Yahrihtwhatever. And you can stop with the RP shtick - I have never supported him. Or Romney.

NeoCons reject civil-libertarianism, true capitalism, and love big gubmint projects. They hail from the Jim Baker wing of the Republican party, to include the Bush's, McCain, Thompson, KBH, and others.

If they are pushing hyphenated conservatism (compassionate conservatism, kinder, gentler conservatism, common-sense conservatism), they are *not* Conservatives, and are more likely to be NeoCon "moderates".

I didn’t mention you personally, I was talking in general.

All of the things you describe as neo-con could also be Establishment GOP.

“Sorry, the Huckster may be pro-life but has a LONG record of sheer liberalism. No thanks!”

Missed my point - Palin may not prove to be all we think she is.

Precisely, and exactly the same thing; The Republican leadership IS neocon/globalist... and that is direct opposition to Conservatism.
