CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Clayton County Sheriffs Office officials arrested a Delta Air Lines pilot for allegedly carrying a concealed weapon inside Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
Police arrested Matthew Lamar McDaniel on Saturday and he was charged with carrying a concealed weapon.
Officials said McDaniel is currently a Delta Air Lines pilot and has been for the past 13 years.
He was granted a $5,700 bond.
The circumstances surrounding McDaniels arrest have not been released
We'll trust him with a multimillion dollar aircraft full of passengers and fuel, but not with a weapon for personal protection?
It seems to me there was some issue where the state passed a law making it legal to carry within airports but the airport was not following the law and arresting people. I don’t see where it states he took it into the sterile area. May just be a police chief trying to make an example of someone standing up for his rights.

Heck, I want that pilot directing my plane.
The opposite would be to have an Obamaloon cabinet member piloting the plane - no ability to control the aircraft and wouldn’t know what to do with a gun.
Yea, it’s not like couldn’t have an Allah Akbar moment in the cockpit or anything.
This isn’t passing the smell test..
Disarming people before boarding aircraft is what doesn’t make sense here. If you truly want to ensure passenger safety on airlines, hand out weapons and optional bacon to each and every passenger when they board the plane. It would instantly become a very unattractive target for terrorists the world over. One or even a couple of armed terrorists wouldn’t stand a chance against 150 pissed off armed passengers!
I think you are right.
I wonder how they knew he was carrying concealed?

WARNING!! Frequent (incessant really) use of the "F" word - and others.
OMG! He might have put the gun to his head and hijacked the plane he was flying!
He was going to hi-jack himself?
We need the picture of Cleavon Little in “Blazing Saddles”.
My first thought was ‘what’s wrong with that?’.
I always travel with bacon bits.
Interesting, I have a close friend who is a captain for the same airline and is licensed as a federal fight deck officer and carries his weapon while flying. As for how he takes it to and from work or whether he has to leave his weapon secured there I don’t know.
Thanks for the pic.
It’s always good for a laugh.
That is what I am wondering.....is this guy a licensed federal deck officer?
It’s legal per the law, but the airport police are arresting people despite the law. It’s also a violation of their preemption law.
This pilot is going to have a heck of a lawsuit when the whole thing is dismissed.
