In a complex case that has drawn the attention of the family of Terri Schiavo, a Vietnam veteran's wife claims a Catholic hospital has tried to end her husband's life by starving him to death, placing him under a "do-not-resuscitate" order and refusing to allow him to return home.
Gary Harvey, 60, a Vietnam veteran in Horseheads, N.Y., fell down a flight of stairs on Jan. 21, 2006 and suffered a traumatic brain injury that put him in a vegetative state. Gary, an only child who is estranged from his two adult children, did not have a living will.

If the hospital will not let him go home......is this not kidnapping? Call the FBI.
I don’t know about some of these. The hospital did not argue with me when I told them I was taking wife home with or without the doctor’s release.
Never got a release from one of them.
First off they Gary should have gotten a sex change and then had a gay marriage, since we all know that it guarantees the same sex spouse complete visitation and control over the care of the other.
Second. In order to become estranged from both of your adult children you generally have to be a complete dirt bag. Sara must be his junior by 20+ years. I don’t think there is much wrong with that unless your goal is to keep a relationship with your children who might not think that is proper. I am sure that is not the only reason for estrangement but I am sure it is a factor.
Basically we all make decisions in life without ever thinking about the “Worst Case”. I actually went to a funeral this last week where the family members were feuding and there were many people there who never thought about the worst case yet here they were having to stand in the same room with each other while a young man they all loved lay in a casket.
Why? Do you want this woman to have an FBI agent laugh in her face? Get serious, the FBI is not going to get involved in this.
I know this happens a lot at least here it does. Mostly the county goes after those with no living relatives but not always. I want to find out how we can protect ourselves from this. Does it take now both hubby and I both having legal papers in place now naming who makes the health decisions?

She did not look that much younger than her husband. She works and appears to manage money if she has collected enough for at home care.
The man is 60 years old. How old are his estranged children? Are the estranged adult children mad, because new wife advised that funding adults due to guilt is not wise? Sad as it is, sometimes money is the thread keeping the relationships tied. Once the thread of money is cut, the unraveling begins.
If it were only one child I would say it could go either way. If you managed to raise two deadbeat kids I think that would be a feat.
It could be the fact that I have little respect for my own parents. Although my father has gotten a little better. My mother on the other hand still has a way to go to earn my respect. When you marry a pedophile and cover for him expect your kids to treat you with disdain. When you treat your kids spouse like dirt and refuse to see the grand kids then you will also be tossed to the side.

The fault for adult children being estranged from him could be the fault on either side. Several years ago there was a case in Virginia where the father - or was it both parents? - left the home to their five children but still expected to live in it until death. No sooner had they turned it over than the children kicked them out.
Turn up the heat!!!!!
These facilities need to be exposed!
