As the New York Times has reported, Connecticut Attorney General and Senate candidate Richard Blumenthal remained stateside during the Vietnam War thanks to five deferments he obtained, the last of which enabled him to take a job in the Nixon White House.
During research for my book The Strong Man: John Mitchell and the Secrets of Watergate (Doubleday 2008), I uncovered some documents that showed Blumenthal, then a staff lawyer for Daniel Patrick Moynihan, a key domestic policy adviser to the president, had aroused the suspicions of Attorney General Mitchell.
The year was 1969, and the country was wracked by divisions over the war. A massive march on Washington was held over the long weekend of November 13-16. The organizing group, the New Mobilization Committee to End the War in Vietnam, or New Mobe, rallied upwards of 250,000 people to descend on the nations capital then a record-shattering turnout for the first major antiwar protest against the Nixon administration.
Despite pledges of nonviolence by New Mobe leaders, an ad hoc committee of Justice Department, Pentagon, and D.C. police officials reckoned otherwise. The potential for violence, with resulting injuries and possible deaths, as well as damage to real and personal property is extremely high, concluded the groups internal report.
Against this backdrop of political tension and the prospect of violence by radical groups -- indeed, the Justice Department was attacked over the weekend, with windows smashed and the building defaced, amid plumes of tear gas unleashed by police -- Attorney General Mitchell came to believe that the youthful Blumenthal, who was deputized to serve as a liaison to the New Mobe, was actually taking orders from Mobe leaders, and in turn directing the District Police to do [the group's bidding].

I was in Washington that weekend, leading my platoon of paratroopers restoring law and order at the Justice Department. Sounds like a butt stroke and bayonet prod was in order for Blumenthal. That would have given him the combat experience that he’s been bragging about, and we would have been happy to have helped him out.
Another of those ‘who had better things to do’. Throw his arse out of public service.
Hey, he’s sorry for his “Misplaced” words like Mark Souder is sorry for his “Misplaced” penis.....they are BOTH SORRY THEY GOT CAUGHT!!
FIOA request would tell EXACTLY what he was doing.
Unless the shredder is working overtime right now.
"In 1970 and 1971, [John] Kerry's VVAW [Vietnam Veterans Against the War] co-sponsored rallies with the Vietnam Moratorium Committee, Students for a Democratic Society, the Young Socialist Alliance, the Student Mobilization Committee, the New Mobilization Committee and the Black Panther Party".
Re: "Vietnam Moratorium":
Vietnam Moratorium Committee (VMC)
The VMC held huge rallies throughout the country from 1969 to 1972 where thousands of demonstrators waved the flags of America's Viet Cong Communist enemies and carried posters of North Vietnamese Communist dictator Ho Chi Minh.
"Ho, Ho, Ho Chi Minh! The Viet Cong are going to win!" was the repeated chant of the VMC demonstrators.
(John Kerry's sister Peggy was deeply involved as a volunteer for the VMC [Vietnam Moratorium Committee]).
At a VMC rally on November 15, 1969 at the Justice Department in Washington, protesters broke windows, threw paint on the building, lowered the U.S. flag and attempted unsuccessfully to replace it with a Viet Cong flag.
After police dispersed the violent demonstrators with tear gas, bands of the protesters roamed the city causing damage to numerous businesses. As a result of the VMC's "peaceful" demonstration, 606 people were injured, including 26 police officers. Later VMC rallies in 1970, 1971 and 1972 were equally violent.
The only surprising thing about this is Rosen’s authorship. Of course Moynihan had liberals working for him! And I’d bet half of them were from New England/New York where antiwar creds were essential to membership in Ivy society. I’d trust Mitchell to spot the leanings long before I’d trust Moynihan to doubt them.
The people in the photo are now in the White House and leading all our other public institutions.
Any relationship to that vile & dispicable Sidney Blumenthall in the Hellry White House?

JOHN KERRY: AMBITION AND OPPORTUNISM:
They are at least of the same mindset.
"As a response to the leaks, the Nixon administration began a campaign against further leaks and against Ellsberg personally. Aides Egil Krogh and David Young under John Ehrlichman's supervision created the 'White House Plumbers,' which would later lead to the Watergate burglaries."
So what is Daniel Ellsberg up to these days? Well, for one thing, he is an endorser of the Revolutionary Communist Party's "World Can't Wait" movement...

From David Horowitz's FrontpageMag.com /DiscoverTheNetworks.org:
Profile: World Can't Wait (WCW)
*Revolutionary communist movement that stages protests against the Bush administration
*Organizes college and high-school students
*Founded in June 2005 by Charles Clark Kissinger, a longtime leader of the Revolutionary Communist Party
The RCP calls for the armed overthrow of the U.S. government...
From the website of the Revolutionary Communist Party (revcom.us or rwor.org) :
"Create Public Opinion, Seize Power: We are preparing minds and organizing forces for the time when there is a major crack in the system, whenever it comes and wherever it comes from: an opening that makes it possible to bring the future Revolutionary Army of the Proletariat (R.A.P.) into the field and wage a revolutionary armed struggle that actually has a chance of winning.
And we have said that building our party itself is the most important part of organizing forces for revolution. This is true now, and it is true looking forward to the creation of that future R.A.P. and the waging of that armed struggle.":
Daniel Patrick Moynihan was a pro abortion CINO, and his employment of liberal aides is not all that surprising.
