CT VFW Cdr. releases statement on Blumenthal "regret"
VFW, Connecticut | May 18, 2010 | DeFederico

Posted on 05/18/2010 1:22:48 PM PDT by Mach9

The following statement is by Richard DiFederico, Department Commander of Connecticut’s largest war veterans’ organization, the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States:

“Those who served in Vietnam or offshore or in neighboring countries rightfully earned all the belated thanks and appreciation our nation can muster. Those who served in uniform during the Vietnam era also deserve our gratitude, which makes Mr. Blumenthal's claim to be something he is not so outrageous. It diminishes the service of all who served and sacrificed, most especially those whose names are inscribed on the Vietnam Wall. Mr. Blumenthal was considered one of the best friends a veteran could have in Connecticut. It is a true shame that he let a false claim of Vietnam service change that.”

Commander DiFederico resides in Oakville, Conn.

And, G.W. Bush gets ridiculed, his honor questioned...

Let's not forget the fake document, too. FWIW.

http://www.vfwct.org/ is the link it’s supposed to air on, but it’s still not up. I’ve been checking, but it doesn’t look as tho the job’ll be easy for them. There was no intention of posting it anywhere else on the net, but the fellow I spoke to said something about its appearing in the Wall Street Journal tomorrow.

Not being qualified for membership in the VFW I'm not thoroughly familiar with their policies but in order to gain membership in the VFW don't you have to certify (prove?) that you,as a uniformed member of the US Armed Forces, served honorably in a combat theater?

According to the VFW of CT, your application is reviewed by three members to verify that you served honorably overseas and were awarded an appropriate campaign ribbon. They've got an eligibility form posted.

It must be the advent of a parallel universe or a tear in the time/space continuum. To THINK the the N Y Times would reveal Blumenthal as a grade A liar (FINALLY) and little Ricky Sanchez would call him what he IS—a LIAR!!! Incredible. The truth from the left about a fellow leftist—twice in the same day!!!

Sounds reasonable. More than what the VA does.

Just got an email back from VFW. They report they had no idea Blumenthal was going to have a press conference at a VFW post hall. That prompted the Connecticut VFW to issue their statement.

The man reiterated that there is no way Blumenthal could be a member of the VFW.

He was very cordial even tho I admit my email to him was angry and upset.

I have spoken hundreds of times about my own service, which was just after the “VietNam Era”.

Not ONCE would ANYBODY have been left with any impression that I was in VN.

This is something you don’t “mis-speak” about or have a few “misplaced words”.

Those who were IN VietNam have just as much appreciation for my service and my defending them and their families in the years following VN. There is no reason for any military man to make claims about the service they did for our country - whether that service was voluntary or coerced by being drafted, if our service is honorable there is no need for justification or excuse. We all honor each other’s service.

Blumenthal’s LIES about what he did while attached to the military are intentional and atrocious.

I can’t believe that a single person who served finds this forgiveable.

Bloominprick said he served “in” Viet Nam! He’s a lying bastard! And, the VFW of Connecticut should be ashamed!

Uh oh, Chris Tingles bashing Blumenthal and saying he wouldn’t trust anyone who helps this man get elected.

He can’t be trusted.

I guess the word is out. Bash Blumenthal.

Most “vets” behind him were from the Marine Corps League

Semper "If"

The word is out that the dems and their supporters have to get this guy out of there so they’ll have plenty of time to field a replacement. The fear is he’ll stick around until it’s too late to replace him and the dems will lose what is ordinarily a safe seat for them.

I agree. I'm technically not even "Vietnam Era" because my active duty was later than, though my date of commission was before, the cut off. Two years active duty, then reserves.

I've made the point elsewhere, but there are several levels here of Veteran: Veteran (like me), Vietnam Era Veteran (like you), and Vietnam Veteran (like many of Brother Rats and friends - I was medically disqualified for several years and only served after the medical regulations changed....).

Blumenthal is none of these, because he's not what the government recognizes as a "Veteran" for the Vet's hiring preference: you have to have 180 days of active duty, OTHER THAN ACTIVE DUTY FOR TRAINING ONLY, any part of which began before Oct '76.

As far as I can tell Blumenthal never spent a day on active duty other than boot camp, the Marine equivalent of AIT, and some summer camps -- all of which are considered "FOR TRAINING ONLY".

The most Blumenthal can legitimately claim to be is a Vietnam Era WEEKEND WARRIOR.

There's nothing wrong with that, just like there's nothing wrong with having taken advantage of legitimate deferments and not serving.

BUT BLUMENTHAL LIED and said he served in Vietnam.... That's intolerable!

The VFW Post where Slick Dick was regretting his words was under the belief that he was going to apologize for his misspeaking. Wordplay was a big part of getting the hall probably.

Rusko was almost correct, there was 1 VFW member I’m trying to read the Post number on his cover. If you want to be pissed at any organization be pissed at the Marine Corps League I know I won’t be paying my dues for a long time
