Colleague Says Blumenthal Claims Grew Gradually
By MICHAEL BARBARO and DAVID M. HALBFINGER
Former Representative Christopher Shays of Connecticut found it puzzling: over time, his friend Attorney General Richard Blumenthal kept revising how he talked about his military service during the Vietnam War. At first, in the 1980s, he was humble. He played it down, Mr. Shays recalled, characterizing it as humdrum desk work.
Over the last few years, however, more sweeping claims crept into Mr. Blumenthals descriptions, he said: that Mr. Blumenthal had served in Vietnam and had felt the sting of an ungrateful nation as he returned.
He just kept adding to the story, the more he told it, Mr. Shays said.
Mr. Shays said he became alarmed enough by the discrepancies that he at times considered mentioning the issue to Mr. Blumenthal, who on Tuesday said he took full responsibility for the occasions when he misspoke about his military history.
As it turned out, Mr. Blumenthal never served in Vietnam, but over time, his identification with veterans of war became so strong that some of those around him, like Mr. Shays, just assumed he had. He made it a point to attend the funeral of every active soldier from Connecticut killed in the line of duty, and he rearranges his schedule so he can speak at the ceremony for soldiers about to deploy to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Yeah, those damn ungrateful kids in the Toys for Tots program. I can see where Blumenthal's coming with that /sarc
Fast fingers, slow mind. LOL!
The pig.
I'm afraid that a few folks might miss the sinister dynamic here.
Mister Blumenthal neither respects nor admires nor identifies with vets. No! He is ENVIOUS of their respect, so he FAKES being one.
This is jealousy and deceit of the lowest kind.
This is similar to the poseurs who wear uniforms and decorations (e.g. Navy SEALS) even though they have never served.
It's not respect. It's not "identification". It's jealousy and fraud.
.
When I lived in NJ, a restaurant opened up with the name of the 94th Bomb Group, which was my father-in-law’s outfit. They had an address for their association there, and he joined. Awhile later, they had a reunion where BG Fred Castle was enshrined in the NJ Aviation Hall of Fame. Castle had been CO of the 94th, and had been in Bill’s plane a few times on missions because his plane was lead bombardier. A few months after gaining flag rank, Castle was lost in action.
One of the men Bill met served later in the war, and most certainly served on combat missions. But, for some reason, he spoke about missions that he could not have flown. Bill called him out on it, and the man backed off. I’m not defending it, but it does happen.
I also have seen the total opposite of that. Most men my dad’s age served in WWII, so it was generally no big deal. There was a really nice English teacher in high school, his name was Mr. Leighton. It wasn’t until he died in the 90’s and his obit was printed that I found out he was a crew member of the Memphis Belle!
lol
He’s an a-hole, remember when the unions went out in buses and harassed the executives who got the large raises, Bloomie was on Fox backing the unions, he was really dispicable in how he thought it was fine to go out and scare people in their homes and besides he wanted the state of Connecticut to take the money away from them... real piece of work this guy is.
I guess it takes all kinds...
On CNN web page(had to peak for another pic of Specter looking like he has just been told he shore has a purty mouth)the story mentions Blumenthal is a Democrat in the fourth paragraph. In the story about Souder, his being a Republican is proclaimed in the fourth WORD.
I don’t know what a CONUS is, but thank you for your service.
Pathetic. Ill give him credit for attending military funerals to pay his respects.
I wonder if he did it only to gather votes ............
