Not long after Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn announced on his Facebook page that he would approve a city boycott of Arizona because of its new immigration law, someone from the Grand Canyon State posted a pesky little question.
"Didn't Seattle just beat the 'mexican' out of a 'homie' who was just walking home ... ?" the man wrote. "And you think we are bad in AZ ... go wash your hands Seattle."
Man's got a point, don't you think?
(edit)
"Look, I didn't push the boycott," McGinn said when I asked him about it. "That came from the council."
Not all council members were exactly bursting with pride, either. I ran in to new Councilman Mike O'Brien, who voted for the boycott but said he did so grudgingly as it has no teeth and is almost entirely symbolic.
I asked McGinn whether it's wise to wag a finger at Arizona right now. The Arizonans have only threatened to go all police state on Mexicans. Our police are already there.
"I'm not trying to claim the moral high ground here," McGinn said. "We know in Seattle we're not perfect. We don't always live up to our ideals.
"But I do think it's OK to make a statement of our values, of what we want our values to be. That's what the boycott does."
Except the boycott leaves out the only meaningful contract the city has with an Arizona company the 30 red-light cameras that spit out tickets and rake in millions for the city.
McGinn answered bluntly when asked why the red-light cameras contract was not part of the boycott. "You may have noticed we have a budget deficit here," he said.

Full disclosure: Although I'm a native of Seattle, I'm quite often (usually) profoundly embarrassed of 'my' city, and this is one of those times. Please know that I stand with Arizona on this and I wish that I could boycott Seattle instead :-)
In addition to discussion of the article and related topics, any links or suggestions on how we can all help Arizona would be sincerely appreciated.
Ping!
The Arizona law is just about wanting to enforce existing laws but to hear the mainstream press one would think that the KKK just came to power.

Indeed. Their hysterical, apoplectic, fantasy mischaracterizations of the Arizona law would be funny if it weren’t in the context of such a desperately serious matter as our national security.
They can drink their own “Seattle Best” coffee...it truly sucks anyway.
Seattle Mayor: “But I do think it’s OK to make a statement of our values, of what we want our values to be. That’s what the boycott does.”
Sure does mayor. It says you don’t give a sh1t about enforcing federal us law, or states being able to work with federal agents to enforce us law. It also shows what humongous hypocrites you are.
I’m outside of Seattle, but I sent the City Council a nice note explaining how I’m boycotting Seattle businesses because of this stupid resolution, and CC’d the Seattle Chamber of Commerce.
I also said I’d urge others to do the same. Consider yourselves urged, and feel free to tell the council president to pound sand, in a nice way, of course.
I live in Seattle, and I never buy it....the ‘coffee culture’ embraced by some here has never appealed to me.
No problem - there are a lot of government dolts out there who don’t realize what a boycott really is. They say they think it’s a ‘statement of our principles’ instead of a commercial/economic action.
Have you read about the member of our Corporation Commission? He sent a letter to Mayor Villaraigosa of Los Angeles; saying that he’s sure our electricity wholesalers would be more than willing to renegotiate our contracts to provide power to LA.
Liberal beans, perhaps?
Ditto, ditto, and ditto.
“I wish that I could boycott Seattle instead :-)”
Why can’t you? My wife and I, who come down to Seattle several times a year to go to ball games, shop, or attend other events are doing just that. We’re sending letters to the Seattle city council informing them of our decision.
That’s two people. How many more are willing?
RedState is all over it, and they have a truly essential article on the whole Arizona / Los Angeles boycott matter that I'd recommend everyone read. It also includes a copy of the full letter Arizonas Electrifying Response to the Lefts Boycotts-R-Us Campaign

Agreed, as well as illustrating how liberalism destroys the mind and prevents any semblance of rational thought. They have manufactured a wishful fantasy of this horrible State of Arizona full of Klan members who are itching to lynch Mexicans when it gets dark.
These libs are psychotic....they should be institutionalized.

An excellent idea, thank you :-)
