The commander of Connecticuts Veterans of Foreign Wars organization blasted Senate candidate Richard Blumenthal Tuesday, referring to his prior statements of service in Vietnam as outrageous.
Mr. Blumenthal was considered one of the best friends a veteran could have in Connecticut. It is a true shame that he let a false claim of Vietnam service change that, said Richard DiFederico, in a statement. Those who served in uniform during the Vietnam era also deserve our gratitude, which makes Mr. Blumenthal's claim to be something he is not so outrageous.
DiFedericos statement came after Blumenthals dramatic and defiant press conference Tuesday at a VFW hall in West Hartford, an event which took place in response to a New York Times report that the Connecticut attorney general had on more than one occasion said he had served in Vietnam, although his time in the Marine Corps Reserve was in fact spent in Washington and Connecticut
Blumenthal is not a member of the VFW, and national leaders noted that he wouldnt meet the eligibility requirement if he tried to join because he didnt actually serve in a theatre of combat. The groups bylaws also do not allow any level of the organization to endorse political candidates.

BlumenDodd’s five deferments should be investigated more thoroughly given his statement that he didn’t have any control over the deferments. He should play the Powerball if this is true because nobody could be so lucky as to granted five deferments without being involved.
Of course he is NOT a member of VFW. He was a member of the reserves and never left the states. Back then the reserves were not used much. Today is a very different story.
VFW=VETERAN OF FOREIGN WARS.
I saw this charade yesterday live on Fox. The VFW post where they had the press conference should be de-certifed by the national organization. Also, on camera, one of the VFW members holding an American flag to the left of the podium was carelessly letting it drag the ground until corrected by a fellow VFW member. The entire event was a disgrace to the VFW and a good indicator of how far the liar Blumenthal will stoop to win an election.
I was at a veterans for Sununu Rally in Concord, NH 2008 along with the State Commander and a bunch of VFW honchos. The topic was outrage that the National had endorsed Carol Che Porter, Rat Moonbat, for the 1ST CD, not endorse my ass.
Liberals for decades wallowed in their ‘religion’ that all truths, facts, etc. are relative. They honestly BELIEVE that there is NO absolute.
Well...guess what??!! Heres a news flash and you can pass it along to your Liberal career-a%$ clown friends who also seem to be as confused as you are:
Authenticity is NOT relative!
Substantiated and empirically actual facts ARE incontrovertible
YES if you omit or misrepresent FACTS-you ARE a liar
YES... if you want to pass yourself off as a mature adult and persist in this patent mendacity, you have some mental pathology going on . Get help!
I'm a simple aviation sailor of 11 years and would never ever claim I did anything more that patrol the seas. I wasn 't even off the coast of Viet Nam, which would mean little anyway on the relative safety of a Navy warship.
Latest update: He misspoke (twice?). Please, you remember when you serve in another country, especially a war zone. As a Marine, he would know where he served. As a Swabbie, I remember I served in Rota, Spain under no threat of combat! Although being Shore Patrol was a bitch, but nothing compared to even being close to combat.
He's another lying grand-standing POS who has dishonored all those who served in combat, and follows the sad dishonor of Murtha and Kerry. There's always a bad apple. On on upside, ALL (3) SEALS have been vindicated about punching some poor terrorist in the face. Personally, I wish they had found an excuse to dead him.
He was drafted and had it made at Ft Gordon as a Radio Instructor but he volunteered to go to Nam (due to the chicken sh*t saluting he had to do at Gordon).
In Country he was just another grunt, the Radio Man. Well when he was 10 days short his Company went on another patrol, but this time they ran into an NVA Regiment.
The fire fight raged on a for almost all day and out of the entire Company, approx 200 men as he told me, only 12 made it back alive. Him being one of the lucky ones
After this he was up for a Bronze Star and another stripe (to E5), BUT, after two days he was 'ordered' to go on another patrol. He told the CO to stick the Bronze Star and Stripe up his you know where, and wasn't leaving his hootch - period. No punitive action was taken but natch, the Bronze Star and stripe was out of the question, but he came home breathing. And with an Honorable Discharge.
When home he never was really able to work again. His old company held his job and he tried, but couldn't work. And then he didn't even want to drive to far from our old hood in Chi to go fishing. It was almost like he feared he would be entering 'enemy territory'. And at one point he didn't even leave his house for almost a year.
THIS is what many vets who were 'In Country' are still going through, my best friend isn't alone here. And then a poseur like this maggot Blumenthal has the balls to say he was in Nam when all he was doing was collecting Barbie Dolls.
May he rot in HELL!
“Latest update: He misspoke (twice?).”
I can’t even accept that misrepresenting his service ONCE was inadvertent or involuntary.
To say that he misspoke more than once is preposterous and disgusting.
It is VERY clear that his representation of his service record was a calculated statement made in the coldest and most self-serving way for the most egotistical purposes. The statements were indisputably intentional and for THAT reason!!!
As I said: I dont know what is more offensive the lies or the lies ABOUT the lies.
I accept that (as a Vietnam-era veteran) I can join the Legion, but not the VFW.
I'm proud of my service -- and can live with the above -- why can't Bummenthal?
