Blumenthal DID serve in the Marines during the VietNam era.

He served as an attorney and as such was exposed to back sprains while sitting in his leather chair and also vicious paper cuts as he thumbed through various legal briefs.

Enough it enough. Give the man a break!

Blumenthal served six months in the Marines training at Parris Island, S.C., and six years in the Marine Reserve, none of it overseas. He joined a unit in Washington that conducted exercises and focused on local projects, such as organizing a Toys for Tots drive, the Times reported. Before that, Blumenthal got five deferments to avoid going to war between 1965 and 1970.

Plus he was soooooo ingenious in getting all these deferrals (five of them as a matter of fact) from serving in actual combat. We gotta give him some credit for that too. Chortle!
