TULSA, OK – Tulsa Police tell the News On 6 a man claiming to be a Okmulgee County Reserve Deputy opened fire at a midtown Tulsa gas station about 7:15 p.m. Tuesday.

The shooting happened at Moe's Grill at 5th and Lewis.

Police officers say the man ran into a person he claimed to have arrested in the past. Witnesses say that person started an argument and flashed a gun.

"At some point, he pulled up his shirt and told the guy, 'hey you know you can get some of this," said Captain Karen Tipler, Tulsa Police. "And he was fearing for his life so he pulled his gun and made sure that if the gun battle was going to ensue, he was going to be on top of it."

The man was hit in the chest, and was pronounced dead, inside the convenience store.

No one else inside the store was hurt.

Moe's is a combination gas station, grocery/convenience store and grill. I'm familiar with it.

The shooting has more behind it that hasn't come out yet. The police are calling it self-defense, at least for now. The defendee is a CCW permit holder, but seems to be "no choir boy". He was dismissed from a rural county's reserve deputy force because he knew more than the cleet instructors who were trying to train him, (/s) and there have been reports that he's being sued for bullying people in some apartment complex he manages or some such thing... details are foggy at this point.

The shootee, according to witnesses, came into Moe's, where the guy was hanging out and talking to an employee, and started giving him a hard time. They seem to both have run in the same circles from what I've read. A hard time turned into a threat when he flashed the gun in his waistband and verbally threatened the guy - BLAM! It was all over, except the guy shot 17 rounds total, which seems kinda pointless to me...

Stay tuned. Our local DA has already prosecuted one shooting case involving a CCW permit that he shouldn't have. My personal opinion based on my own jury duty is that the DA is ambitious and ruthless, so who knows how it will play out.

was that the Pharmacist with the back brace who kept shooting on video after the perp was down and out for the count????

BTW....I have a CCW but dont believe in them...nothing in the Constitution says that I should get a CCW to protect myself...they only say I need to get a weapon....

I never heard how that other case went. Are you talking about the road rage incident?

That’s true, about the ccw. I think the case you’re talking about happened in OKC.

No, that happened in Oklahoma City / Oklahoma County. Tulsa is not in Oklahoma County, it's in Tulsa County.

My opinion of the Tulsa County DA has to do with a case I became familiar with when I was called to jury duty, and the CCW shooting case that happened a couple of years ago.

Short version: A CCW permit holder shot a tweaker who followed him in his car and threatened him, but the DA leaned on the guy and prevailed on him to plead to a sentence for manslaughter.

From the article’s description, prosecution might have been a possibility if the shooter wasn’t a cop.
