AP Invokes Favorite Adverb to Describe How Jobless Claims Rose 'Unexpectedly'

"Unexpectedly." It recent overuse by the Associated Press almost makes me nostalgic for the "green shoots" that the mainstream media kept seeing last year in the midst of rising unemployment and other bad economic news. When you see the AP use that adverb nowadays, you almost always know it involves depressing news on the economic front and this time they did not dissapoint with their story about a sharp increase in jobless claims:

WASHINGTON-- The number of people filing new claims for unemployment benefits unexpectedly rose last week by the largest amount in three months. The surge is evidence of how volatile the job market remains, even as the economy grows.

Applications for unemployment benefits rose to 471,000 last week, up by 25,000 from the previous week, the Labor Department said Thursday. It was the first increase in five weeks and the biggest jump since a gain of 40,000 in February.

The forecast had been for claims to fall by around 4,000 from the previous week.

But...but ...we...are in the best of hands? Harvard hands, Yale hands. Coupled with Chicago street smarts and the buzzing hive efficiency of the Federal government and the secret keepers of the Temple of Federal Reserve.

We need more sacrifices to appease the temple gods!

If they’re not able to “expect” the jobless rates, how can they be trusted to “expect” the impact of health care reform? Sorry, rhetorical question ...

Unexpectedly. They keep using that word. I do not think it means what they think it means.

Obviously we are “governed” by men who have no idea what to expect each day. Who knew?

But...but ...we...are in the best of hands?

Reminds me of that song in the Al Capp musical "Lil Abner"... The Country's in the Very Best of Hands".Hilarious and prophetic.

LOL. All ABC top-o-the-hour News had to respond to this statistic was a report from some federal agency saying that a poll of airlines indicated they expect more Americans to take vacations this year.

A pretty lame response, even for the media buffoons.

I’m suprised that this administration even allows the publishing of these labor statistics.

The AP keeps expecting that Obama and Pelosi can spend our money and make our life decisions for us much better than we could run our own lives. Surprisingly, even though socialism and a command economy had worked out poorly for the first sixteen months under the Obama Regime so they were “due” for a success (in their minds at least), it unexpectedly failed once more for the most recent week.

I just don’t get how it is “unexpected”. When a government is doing eveyrthing in it’s power to kill the economy why would anything like this be unexpected?

Obama’s economy is not “unexpected.”

Socialism has predictable results.
