Obama organizers attempt to rescue Austin TX with Astroturf campaign (Ref AZ 1070)

Last week, the city council of Austin, Texas passed a resolution to boycott Arizona over its new immigration-enforcement law. For those who don’t know much about Texas politics, Austin is as liberal as the rest of the state is conservative. However, in an embarrassing display of just how marginalized the Austin liberals have become, the local newspaper has run 20 letters from readers regarding the council’s boycott — all of them opposed to it.

While the Austin city council has likely not read the bill — and neither has the White House — Barack Obama’s political organizing group has decided to take action to defend Austin’s boycott. Will they actually read the bill? Are they scheduling protests? Not exactly. In an e-mail from Organizing for America that went out last night (and provided to us by a reader), OfA announces an Astroturf campaign to flood the newspaper with letters supporting the boycott:

“the local newspaper has run 20 letters from readers regarding the council’s boycott — all of them opposed to it.”

They found two people today to sing the praises of the *Latino* worker and how the country would crumble without them. Idiots!

“Isn’t astroturf full of nuts and flakes? It might be the name of the next popular boxed cereal product!”

In Lincoln, Nebraska, where the Univ of Nebraska is located they installed astroturf in Memorial Stadium...to stop the cheer leaders from grazing.

The ‘N’ on the stadium stands for ‘Knowledge’.

etc...

I work in Lakeway and live in Travis Co, no city, on Lake Travis.

I’m going to boycott Austin forever over this.

Not like anything’s going to change. Just wish AZ had something to hold over the idiot Council’s heads like they do LA.

Austin is run by a bunch of ignorant hacks. I know, I live there.

Austin is a haven for Kalifornia transplants. They don't like the oppressive taxes, failing schools, overall cost, and crumbling economy of CA - so they sell their 1,100 sq ft shack and move into a 4,000 sq ft palace in Austin that has low crime in the neighborhood and very good public schools. Then - they continue their moronic custom of voting democRAT!

You can tell a lot about the management of a city by it's transportation infrastructure. I'll leave the CapMet trains alone this time other than to say it's totally FUBAR. The "highways" here have frikin traffic signals on them! The worst are probably the unsynchronized ones leading to the airport. I mean - what major Capitol city has traffic signals on the highway leading to the only airport? It's especially stupid given Texas is the 2nd most populous state and ranked #1 for business climate. (Oh yeah - Boston, MA - the home of Harvard and MIT.) Plus a lot of roads have unfinished bypasses that lead to nowhere - so any volume of traffic produces daily snarls.

When conservative Texans finally take over Austin - e.g. residents who didn't graduate from UT or come from some liberal morass (present company excepted) - it'll be a fantastic city given it's many positive attributes.

I think I will do the same thing. The Austin Silly Council is nothing but left wing radicals.
