Thousands of Texans are now boycotting Austin. This will cost the city money it cannot afford to lose.

the local newspaper has run 20 letters from readers regarding the council’s boycott — all of them opposed to it

I am surprised the paper would run the letters, are you sure that wasn't just online?

Isn’t astroturf full of nuts and flakes? It might be the name of the next popular boxed cereal product!

This is astonishing; an offcial Obama organization is calling for an economic boycot of a state. In effect the Obama administration tself is calling for economic warfare against US citizens.

The Un-American Statesman ran 20 letters AGAINST it?

I am shocked.

I live in Round Rock and work in Austin.

I will not spend a penny in Austin until the stupidity ends. I know of quite a few others who are doing the same.

“the local newspaper has run 20 letters from readers regarding the council’s boycott — all of them opposed to it.”

They found two people today to sing the praises of the *Latino* worker and how the country would crumble without them. Idiots!

Austin is run by a bunch of ignorant hacks. I know, I live there.

Austin is a haven for Kalifornia transplants. They don't like the oppressive taxes, failing schools, overall cost, and crumbling economy of CA - so they sell their 1,100 sq ft shack and move into a 4,000 sq ft palace in Austin that has low crime in the neighborhood and very good public schools. Then - they continue their moronic custom of voting democRAT!

You can tell a lot about the management of a city by it's transportation infrastructure. I'll leave the CapMet trains alone this time other than to say it's totally FUBAR. The "highways" here have frikin traffic signals on them! The worst are probably the unsynchronized ones leading to the airport. I mean - what major Capitol city has traffic signals on the highway leading to the only airport? It's especially stupid given Texas is the 2nd most populous state and ranked #1 for business climate. (Oh yeah - Boston, MA - the home of Harvard and MIT.) Plus a lot of roads have unfinished bypasses that lead to nowhere - so any volume of traffic produces daily snarls.

When conservative Texans finally take over Austin - e.g. residents who didn't graduate from UT or come from some liberal morass (present company excepted) - it'll be a fantastic city given it's many positive attributes.
