Democratic Congressman Joe Sestaks victory over longtime Senator Arlen Specter for his partys nomination Tuesday has given him a bounce in support in Pennsylvanias general election for U.S. Senate.
The latest Rasmussen Reports statewide telephone survey of Likely Voters shows Sestak picking up 46% support over Republican nominee Pat Toomeys 42%. Only three percent (3%) prefer some other candidate while nine percent (9%) are undecided.
Sestaks support is up six points from earlier this month and is at its highest level yet measured in the race. Two weeks ago, Sestak and Toomey were in a virtual tie.
In surveys conducted in April, March and February, Sestaks support fell within a narrow range of 36% to 38%. During the same period, Toomeys support ranged from 42% to 47%.
Earlier this month, Sestak pulled ahead of Specter for the first time all year, 47% to 42%. On Tuesday, Sestak beat Specter 54% to 46% in the Democratic primary.
Toomey easily won the Republican nomination on Tuesday by picking up 82% of the vote over Peg Luksik.

NO hope for PA.
Fools Gold.
Pa. is a state full of taxtakers. They will not give up the loot til the rest of our wallets are empty.
Pfft. ‘Likely voters’. You can’t go by that at all.
Now Toomey needs to get out there and get the ads on TV.
Agree... McCain Palin foolishly poured millions into PA in the closing weeks and got trounced.
PA is lost forever. Move on.
Why would they elect another domocrat who will vote exactly as Spector did? I just don’t understand? Did he vote for healthcare? If he did you guys need to beat him with that.
WTF is wrong with people in Pennsylvania. They are becomin ght enew Michigan geez
The irony is if Sestak wins, it will be based mostly on a rejection of everything Obama. The Democrats, who have been preaching to the Republicans to ‘move towrd the middle’, may find out that they’re the ones who have to pull up stakes.
look at where all the media coverage went, as usual.
Go Pat!
McCain/Palin lost only in Allegheny County(Pittsburgh area) and the Philly region. Almost every other county went for McCain.
We are fighting our own fight down here. In Delaware on Sept 14, Christine O'Donnell is taking on the most liberal Republican Congressmen, Mike Castle, for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate, Biden's old seat. Castle has been a professional politician since before Christine was born. Most recently, as a congressmen he supported cap & tax, the bailouts and the government takeover of industry. Now he wants a senate seat.
Might just as well cancel the election, Sleestak is deemed to be the winner. /s
Toomey needs to come out swinging now that challenger is decided.. he needs to let folks know just how loopy Sestak is.. that’s not hard, folks know who Sestak is he won’t win PA, but if Toomey doesn’t define him soon, he’ll wind up painting himself as less than the lefty loon that he is and it’ll be too late.
the only good news against Sestak is that he has a record in Congress. He can’t run to the middle and pretend to be something he is not. I hope and pray that Toomey and the entire party are able to bat down the upcoming campaign lies from all these Dem candidates. They will all be voting for Nancy Pelosi’s agenda if they get in office. The GOP better be able to get that out there loud and clear.
Hey! Thanks for all the kind words!
And here I was going to do my part to help turn this Commonwealth around, and hopefully save it and the country.
Whew! Yunz just saved me all sorts of time!
Now that you’ve made it clear, I guess I’ll just put my feet up, pop open a beer and wait for the end to come.
8^p
If we gave Philthadelphia to the PRNJ, BOTH states would be improved.
Wow, that’s a good looking woman. Once again all the babes are on the right.
