Sweeping Wall Street Reform Bill Advances Legislation is one of President Barack Obama's top domestic priorities WASHINGTON - U.S. Senate Democrats nabbed the 60 votes needed on Thursday to advance the biggest overhaul of financial regulation since the 1930s, paving the way for a final vote on passage within days.

The legislation is one of President Barack Obama's top domestic priorities. The bill calls for new ways to watch for risks in the financial system and makes it easier to liquidate large financial firms that are failing.

It also writes new rules for complex securities blamed for helping precipitate the 2008 economic crisis. And it creates a new consumer protection agency.

The Senate voted 60-40 to end debate on the bill as U.S. stocks fell sharply. Barney Frank, the Democratic head of a key House committee, told CNBC television news it is important to get financial reform approved quickly to ease market uncertainty. He said he expected Obama could sign a bill into law well before July 4.

Obama and his Congress are like doting mothers and oppressive fathers. Whenever the kid makes a mistake, big daddy will make sure he puts strict rules in place so junior doesn’t mess up again, and tells junior how disappointed he is in him and how bad he’s been. Junior then grows up scared of his own shadow until one day he commits suicide. We’re junior, folks.

If you’re going to defame Marco Rubio, you’d better come up with some evidence and not assume that he’s pro-open borders just because he’s Hispanic. Marco Rubio has a long record in the legislature and has been consistently opposed to open borders and amnesty for illegal aliens. So put up or shut up: where’s your evidence?

Yeah, I’ve noticed the pretend POTUS’s authoritarian streak. When he isn’t issuing a deadline, he’s giving an ultimatum. I thought our constitution and government were constructed to be the opposite of authoritarian. Can we call him a pre-constitutional ruler?

They will never take the blame.

And, I think we have only a tad more than 8 weeks to go before “it” gets ushered in...

BS. Rubio blocked AZ-like laws when he was the leader of the FL House. He is spewing the same crap McCollum is saying AZ’s law is good for AZ but not for FL. This is after Rubio flip-flopped on AZ’s law. He was against it before he was for it. He sounds like JohnKerry or pathetic Crist.

It is the same crap Jeb Bush, Crist and Rubio are saying. They are RINOs too and not hispanic.

Mel Martinez 2.

So, assuming that you are correct and Rubio blocked “AZ-type bills” in the FL state house, if Rubio thought that it was a bad idea politically for FL Republicans to adopt a law mandating cops to check the immigration status of everyone they stop, it means that he’s in favor of open borders and amnesty for illegal aliens? While I think that every state—and the federal government—should adopt a law similar to the one recently adopted in AZ, that does not mean that everyone who would rather not do so is a RINO. Remember, too, that Rubio’s family, as well as most of his constituents in his old house district, escaped from a communist regime in which one had to carry one’s “papers” at all times or face getting hauled away by the secret police, so a law like the one adopted in AZ would certainly be controversial even among Republicans in South Florida.

You picked out one, tangential issue—the AZ law—and deemed anyone who would not adopt the law in his home state a RINO. I bet you I can do the same to 99% of Republican politicians nationwide by picking another non-central issue, since X voted to ban discrimination against homosexuals in the workplace, and Y voted against defunding Planned Parenthood, and Z voted for tariffs on steel imports, but that does not mean that 99% of Republican politicians nationwide are RINOs. Marco Rubio is a solid conservative, and will be our ally in the Senate on every issue—including immigration. Falsely claiming that Rubio is in favor of open borders and amnesty for illegal aliens will only result in someone who will vote against us on just about every issue, such as Charlie Crist and (especially) Kendrick Meek, being elected to the Senate in Florida.

Snipped nonsense!

One tangential issue?! You mean illegal immigration which is bankrupting America and FL? The problem is the FL GOP is all RINOs. Open-border Bush pals. Disgusting. I though McCollum was better but he is just as bad.

Crist is liberal Democrat but Rubio is an open-borders RINO.

Brown, Snowe and Collins. The usual RINOs sell us out once again. We need to pass NOTHING until the Republicans retake all of the US legislature. Any corrections to any deficiences we have as a nation can wait until then. Anything passed by Pelosi and Read will advance communism in sheep’s clothing.

Brown is good. He is a liberal Republican that is one seat closer to a Senate majority. There is no Masshole alternative better than we have in Brown. He is the best we are going to get out of “Kenedy’s seat”, so don’t complain about him. At least he helps the Republicans retake the Senate and get rid of Read or whoever would become majority leader after Read gets unelected.

We need to retake the House and Senate. Any RINOs who take a Socialists seat helps us get there. Brown is a good thing. We aren’t’ going to get better from the Commonwealth of Taxassueschits.

I predict 0bamaCare will never be implimented.

We’ll be in such bad shape by this time next year that they will just toss it aside.

I agree with you on the implementation of the so called "health aspects" of the bill. That was never the intent of the socialist RAT bastards, as they only wanted to advance their socialist-marxist-fascist agenda.

However what will be implemented without delay will be the 111 additional federal bureaucracies and thousands of new federal employees, called for by 0bozo Healthcare debacle. Even in the unlikely event that this Healthcare debacle is ever repealed, the chances are nil to none, that the new federal agencies will be removed or defunded. We will still get screwed in the end.

I think you’ve got it exactly right.

No, stopping illegal immigration is indeed a central issue (and a darn important one); a state law mandating that cops verify the immigration status of everyone they stop is a tangential issue. Re-read my examples of tangential issues in my prior post and you’ll see what I mean.

You are throwing a hissy fit because someone who agrees with you on the central issue (and it is clear that Marco Rubio opposes open borders and amnesty for illegal aliens) does not agree with you 100% on how to achieve it. You’re like pro-lifers who will pledge to defeat a legislator with a 99% pro-life voting record because they did not vote to defund Planned Parenthood. When someone does that, one should be disappointed, and explain why it’s bad strategy for a pro-lifer to vote against defunding Planned Parenthood; one shouldn’t lie about the legislator, calling him pro-abortion, and thus aid someone who truly is pro-abortion get elected to replace him. And that’s what you’re doing with Marco Rubio by calling him an “open-borders RINO” without a shred of evidence. You know who truly is pro-open borders? Kendrick Meek. You know who would probably support amnesty for illegal aliens? Charlie Crist. They’re the ones who will benefit from your attacks upon Marco Rubio’s honor.

I asked you several posts ago to show me where Marco Rubio has favored open borders or amnesty for illegal aliens, and you’ve got NOTHING. Your repetition of “he doesn’t think the AZ law is right for FL” as “proof” of your claim is a non-sequitur.

Understood. But, here’s my concern....the added BS they’ll throw in on top of this bill. Like this tidbit that just came to light: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2518425/posts

WE don’t need more laws.
THEY need the laws to exercise greater control over us - now including total monitoring of your bank account activity.

Great. Now they can look at everything you do with your money and claim you owe even more in taxes.
