I used to take a shotgun and hunting cloths to school and then a couple of us and our Biology teacher would go bird hunting after classes.
My old Junior High had a shooting range located under the school pool. We used to have shooting classes after school and have competitions using 22LR.
I think the leftist school apparatchiks collective heads would explode if those things still happened today.

Actually, my old high school still does. And they have a full Jr ROTC program (open to girls) and a Rifle Team. That's in Fresno CA.

Our school had bow and arrow practice out back, with big straw-stuffed targets.
The worst thing that happened on our suburban DC campus in the early 60s was that a senior, over 18, drank a beer in the school parking lot during Senior Week. The school threatened to cancel graduation.
