Palin backs candidate in Washington Senate race(Clint Didier)

Sarah Palin on Thursday endorsed a Senate candidate backed by the tea party, a move that complicates national Republican efforts to recruit their favored choice in the Washington state race.

On her Twitter account, the former Alaska governor and 2008 vice presidential candidate described Clint Didier, a former Washington Redskins player, as a "patriot running for U.S. Senate to serve his state & our country for all the right reasons!" She didn't mention Dino Rossi, a two-time candidate for governor who is widely anticipated to jump into the race challenging Democratic Sen. Patty Murray in November.

National Democrats have been aggressively criticizing Rossi, hoping to keep him out of the Senate race or rough him up by the time he's officially in - similar to what they did to Indiana's Dan Coats. But much of Democrats' attacks on Rossi is familiar from his two previous bids and Rossi has been in no rush to start campaigning ahead of the Aug. 17 primary.

The deadline to get on Washington's ballot is June 11.

Isn’t this guy’s campaign being filmed by Kelsey Grammer’s new TV channel?

“Didier advocates a non-interventionist foreign policy, similar to that of Congressman Ron Paul.”

It’s interesting how Palin seems to favor libertarians.

Rossi was at a town meeting last night, gave a great speech, and explained his reasons for the delay. Either he, or Clint would make a great candidate to get rid of Murry.

He mentioned meeting with the GOP leadership, and had questions of how they would support conservative causes. I have the same questions.

Saw a short blurb from Sarah on FNC today and she was saying that Libertarians like Rand Paul provide a counter balance to the extreme liberals on many issues. That may explain why she is backing Didier.

Libertarians share many of the same views as Conservatives, when compared to RINOs and Dems. Some of their reaaalllly weirded-out ideas would never be allowed to come to a vote, anyway (like pulling all US military troops from foreign countries).

I question the criteria that the “establishment” GOP (like the RNC, Cornyn’s Senate group and its counterpart in the House) are using to select Republican candidates to support. They appear to be selecting only people who think like THEY do and apparently haven’t realized that milquetoast politics is no longer acceptable.

Rossi lost to Christine Gregoire by only 133 votes in 2004. In 2008, she beat him again, that time by a wider margin of 53 percent to 47 percent.
