That applies to shooting at someone. Para-Ord.45 was asking about shooting into the sky, and with a shotgun (presumably loaded with shot, not a slug.) This is still a violation because at least in CA it is illegal to discharge a firearm in an incorporated area, and I presume the banker doesn't live on a ranch. However I think he wouldn't be charged for that because he had a valid reason to shoot, and he called the police already.
I’m of the thought that I only discharge a firearm at the range and at someone I intend to kill.
Warning shots will only get you in trouble.
