Top Official Says Feds May Not Process Illegals Referred From Arizona

A top Department of Homeland Security official reportedly said his agency will not necessarily process illegal immigrants referred to them by Arizona authorities.

John Morton, assistant secretary of homeland security for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, made the comment during a meeting on Wednesday with the editorial board of the Chicago Tribune, the newspaper reports. "I don't think the Arizona law, or laws like it, are the solution," Morton told the newspaper. The best way to reduce illegal immigration is through a comprehensive federal approach, he said, and not a patchwork of state laws. The law, which criminalizes being in the state illegally and requires authorities to check suspects for immigration status, is not "good government," Morton said.

John Morton’s Lie:

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) employees witnessed the swearing-in ceremony of the newly confirmed Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security for ICE, John T. Morton, at the Potomac Center North headquarters building in the nation’s capital.

Raising his right hand, Morton swore to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies.” ICE Deputy Assistant Secretary John Torres officiated at the ceremony. President Obama appointed Morton to his new position, and he was unanimously confirmed Tuesday by the U. S. Senate. He is the third assistant secretary to lead ICE in the agency’s six years of existence.

At ICE, Morton will guide a workforce of more than 19,000 in an international mission to enforce U.S. customs and immigration laws, strengthen the nation’s immigration systems and conduct investigations related to cross-border and financial crimes. He takes a lead role in coordinating with state and local law enforcement, cracking down on human trafficking activities and preventing the illegal movement of weapons and currency from the United States to Mexico.

Morton comes to ICE with an extensive background in federal law enforcement and immigration law and policy. He began his federal service in 1994 and has held a variety of positions within the Department of Justice, including as a trial attorney and special assistant to the general counsel in the former Immigration and Naturalization Service and as counsel to the deputy attorney general.

From 1999 to 2006, he prosecuted criminal cases as an assistant U. S. attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia, first in the Major Crimes Unit and later in the Terrorism and National Security Unit. From 2006 to mid-2009, Morton served in the Criminal Division of the Department of Justice, first as the acting chief of the Domestic Security Section and then as the acting deputy assistant attorney general.

Fine. If ICE isn't going to do their job; AZ needs to refuse to recognize them as a legitimate law enforcement entitity. Tell them to vacate their positions immediately. After 72 hours the county Sheriffs and State police will have orders to arrest uniformed ICE agents or prsonnel acting on behalf of ICE; if they resist...... shoot them.

Call up the state militia and the National Guard. Defend your border AZ!

Impeachment should have started yesterday when Bamster had the supreme commander of a hostile invasion force dictate terms to our Congress.

Morton is good example of why bigger and bigger gubermint doesn’t work.

Some conservatives predicted this when W created DHS and all it’s little offspring.

I guess AZ could always set up their own buses or planes—maybe the AZ Air National Guard can practice touch and goes on a deserted airstrip in southern MX.— “out you go, Felipe.”

The best way to reduce illegal immigration is through a comprehensive federal approach (amnesty plus open borders) he said, and not a patchwork of state laws reqiring enforcement of federal Laws, which we refuse to do.

Clarified.

Arizona should call their bluff and tell ICE that if they won’t take them they will just execute them.

Didn’t Arizona make it a state crime to be in Arizona illegally? If so, they should just hold the illegals. Make the penalty 2 years with Sheriff Joe. Then, when Barry is voted out in 2 years, we will have an immigration service that enforces US law.

If the states (like AZ) cannot create and enforce their own legislation, then why even have individual states? Why not have a Centralized Government that tells us what to do and how to do it? By ICE not enforcing the law and helping AZ deport illegals, what I take out of this new situation is that the Obama administration does not care one iota what states do because he wants one Centralized Government where he can rule over everybody and everything.

No problem. If ICE won’t process illegal aliens from Arizona, just take them to the border and push them across.
