Hunter was my first choice too.
He clearly did not really want it. I cast a protest vote for Alan Keyes, then wasted several thousand dollars on McCain. Sure could use that money now.
I don’t know that Hunter didn’t want it. I didn’t have that sense, anyway.
The problem Hunter and others like him have is that the media won’t give them the time of day for exposure. They has their choices and those are the ones they focus on which makes it nearly impossible for alternative candidates to be seen and heard by voters.
