When bedbugs are causing such large-scale misery as to force elderly people and those with disabilities to give away their belongings and leave their homes, the time has come to do whatever will work the most efficiently against this growing infestation.
So the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency should listen to the Ohio Senate, which has asked for an emergency permission to use the pesticide Propoxur, which hasn't been employed in homes for several years. Propoxur has proved significantly more effective than other treatments, to which bedbugs have grown resistant. But the company that manufactures it declined to renew its application for indoor use in 2006.
The chemical is considered a probable carcinogen after long-term exposure, and it could be risky to children, who are nearer to the floor and tend to ingest all sorts of things.
That's why it should be used sparingly and just long enough to roll back the bedbug tide.
According to research done by Dr. Michael Potter, an entomologist at the University of Kentucky, one application can eradicate bedbugs and their larvae, as opposed to other commonly used methods and pesticides, which require several treatments by exterminators. Those most vulnerable to an infestation - the poor, the disabled and elderly - are the very people least able to afford repeated treatments, which can cost hundreds of dollars.
Bedbugs live off the blood of humans and animals, and they are so small that they can slip into cracks and crevices of a mattress, avoiding extermination, and they can live without eating for a year. They move about by hitchhiking in purses and luggage. They aren't known to spread disease, but allergic reactions to their bites can be severe.

Force Lisa Jackson to sleep in a bedbug infested hotel room and then see what the EPA decides to do about the problem.
What’s bad is that the EPA has already rid America of the organophosphates, which were excellent for pest control, and now even more. It’s getting upsurd to the point that now you’ll be sharing your house with whatever wants to come in.
That is Obama's plan, but he is talking about two legged critters, not 4, 6 and 8 legged ones. It's part of the "spread the wealth" program.
And what are you doing with that whacky tagline. Soverign nation. LOL!
At least that’s what Obama thinks.
Hope springs eternal! I just bought a "device" to better ensure my house is a sovereign home, at least.
Why not import some good old DDT from a country where they don’t care about out laws and decrees? It’s cheap , It works.. It’s available NOW. and it’s harmless to humans.
