Two brothers sign up for very long walk against corporate personhood

Brothers George “Laird” Monahan, 69, and Robin Monahan, 67, have a long walk ahead of them.

After a visit in Humboldt County last week, the pair is setting off from San Francisco's Golden Gate Park today to walk across the country, expecting to arrive at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. sometime before Election Day.

But this is far from a casual stroll, as the brothers are walking across the country to bring attention to the recent controversial U.S. Supreme Court ruling in the case of Citizens United v. the FEC. The court's decision overturned sections of the McCain-Feingold campaign finance law, and ruled that corporations are entitled to some of the same rights as people.

”'We, the people' are hallowed words in this country, but corporate personhood strips us of our sacred right to self-government,” Robin Monahan said in a press release. “That is unacceptable.”

The brothers learned of Move to Amend, a joint project of more than 50 organizations -- including the local group Democracy Unlimited of Humboldt County -- working to promote a constitutional amendment to abolish corporate personhood.

”We felt we had to do something beyond letter-writing,” Robin Monahan said in the release. “Our anger over this gutting of our political system called out to us for a physical sacrifice to stop it.”

George Monahan called on others to join the movement.

”You may not want to walk across the country with us, but you can add your name to the cause at www.movetoamend.org,” he said. “WE need to join our voices until it is a chorus that politicians of all parties can't ignore.”

It’s the summertime. These libtards have too much time on their hands. Is there a walk against walkers with idiotic liberal causes?

I was just pointing out that they started in Humbolt County—which has to be one of the biggest drug centers in the country-——I’m thinking they may get busted along the way..............

At 67 and 69 years of age, perhaps they are drawing Social Security in which case calling them unemployed is a bit of a mischaracterization.

Tis nothin’ but a union stunt, and what a waste it is; this issue isn’t on anyone’s radar. Go ahead, boys, knock yourselves out!

The great irony is that most (if not all) of these 50 organizations are also corporate persons. Somehow the liberal mind is unable to comprehend that their bleeding heart nonprofit organizations are corporate entities too.
