MR. FRIEDMAN: Well, David, it's been decimated. It's been decimated by everything from the gerrymandering of political districts to cable television to an Internet where I can create a digital lynch mob against you from the left or right if I don't like where you're going, to the fact that money and politics is so out of control--really our Congress is a forum for legalized bribery. You know, that's really what, what it's come down to. So I don't--I, I--I'm worried about this, it's why I have fantasized--don't get me wrong--but that what if we could just be China for a day? I mean, just, just, just one day. You know, I mean, where we could actually, you know, authorize the right solutions, and I do think there is a sense of that, on, on everything from the economy to environment. I don't want to be China for a second, OK, I want my democracy to work with the same authority, focus and stick-to-itiveness. But right now we have a system that can only produce suboptimal solutions.

Yes he does. That is what he wants.
He has even written a column about how wonderful the Chinese POLITICAL system is.
Yeah, Friedman, how’d you like to be sent to the gulag and have your organs harvested by one of those Chinese chaos fixers?
Actually, it’s probably already in the small print of Obamacare. Wait for it.
I posted this exact thing on the sunday talk show thread yesterday. I think he should have to live over there for a little while-under THE LITTLE PEOPLES rules- and let me know how that works out. If his wife gets pregnant, and they already have a kid, what would he think of the right solution there? What about he cannot own a vehicle, except a bike or mule, to go anywhere. How about that clean, unpolluted water he will have to drink from?
These people are nuts. They think that THEY will be able to live like the elites, not like the rest of us. perhaps they should revisit just how much they actually care about the little people if they think CHINA has it going on!
Hey Friedman, why don’t you go live there.
Haha. Talk about rhetorical excess, wonder how does it feel to be lynched by a digital mob? Probably not as bad as being a teenager and have 4 busloads of SEI thugs in your yard.
And, I guess you have to be a minority to be lynched, in Freedman's estimation.
I would take a digital lynching over a real on any day......
Friedman - in China they don’t have a freedom of the press, you moron. You’d be out of work.
Do you have more than one child Tom? In China your second child would have been aborted.
Like praying in your synagogue Tom? Nevermind.
I wouldn’t even mind a digital organ harvesting too much.
It never ceases to amaze one what sub par intellects dominate the US Junk Media machine
LOL. you know we are weak when worried about digital lynchings. We are fat, happy and sheltered folks. This guy needs some experience away from his desk...
“I have fantasized—don’t get me wrong—but that what if we could just be China for a day? I mean, just, just, just one day. You know, I mean, where we could actually, you know, authorize the right solutions, and I do think there is a sense of that, on, on everything from the economy to environment.”
An insight into how liberals think. This coming on the heels of Chrissie Mathews fantasizing about imprisoning oil executives, ala Hug Chavez.
yup. Their ideas cannot work, so they have to have them “authorized” by force. It is laughable that he says right afterwards so he can see democracy work LOL. WHOSE democracy? Not mine, or the 50+ % of the country who he is seeking to impose (authorize) HIS views upon. Sheesh....
I am no Friedman fan, but I understand what he meant. He wrote a column about this several weeks ago. He cited the ability of China to make quick decisions and get things done as opposed to our ever slower legislative process. He made a point of talking about the speed of a Chinese decision to build one of the worlds largest Hydro Electric Dams without regards to environmental impact studies or protecting the rights of displaced farmers etc. In that regard, he made some sense.
Easy to "authorize" when you have 1 billion slaves. The US once had slaves. Is that what this clown really wants... slaves?
if these fools in washington would stop creating roadblock agencies (epa, doe, hls, et al.....) there wouldn’t be as much deliberating and hoopjumping required. Congress has created this boondoggle by allowing these departments, with their legions of lawyers justifying their jobs by arguing for all this regulation.
Stop ordering the super duper deluxe sundae with everything, then complain when you get a bellyache. These people are fools.
It’s the same impulse that led our forefathers to ditch the confederacy and replace it with consolidated, supreme power.
Guy is an asshat extraordinaire, but he IS right about this
“really our Congress is a forum for legalized bribery.”
He claims that the previous problem with Marxism was that there wasn't a large enough infrastructure possible to make it work. He's very big on the premise of a command and control economy.
The book is littered with stuff everyone already knew about (taking a Burger King order from another state) and follows up with his proposed solution of mandated government price controls, wage controls, cradle to grave free education and retraining when a job is replaced, elimination of too much or too little profit, and using a slice of the production capacity to create a social safety net.
The guy is a trust fund radical.
