Man Beaten By 5 Others

A Lansing man is recovering after being jumped by five men in his own backyard. It happened Saturday night on the 5200 block of Sunrose. The victim lives in a house that backs up to a basketball court. Police say five men were playing ball on that court and cursing. When a neighbor told them to watch their language, they jumped over a fence and beat him up. The victim was treated at a local hospital and is expected to be OK. The men who beat him ran off. "My husband just went to the fence and asked him very respectfully, 'This is a family neighborhood here, can you cut the language?' " she said. "He didn't even get it out of his mouth, and this guy jumped the fence."

Then, she said, about five others from the basketball court jumped the fence into their backyard, where moments before the couple had been grilling chicken. Ruble said she was pushed to the ground.

As others on the basketball court cheered them on, the men beat and kicked her husband until he was nearly unconscious, she said.

It is an older part of town because the street lights are of the very old style that were installed before I was born there over 50 years ago.

not so nice? my grandparents built a house there about 30 years ago, its a nice, quiet little subdivision. i stayed there most of last summer, and have friends over there.
i went to school with alot of the kids of the people that still live there (i knew the kids of both the rubles and dibeans)

there's a bunch of cops that live in that area too. i'd like to know why they don't do anything about keeping an eye on that park.

Comment section of that website is buzzing, but a family memeber of the man beaten said, the dad was offended by the use of the N word and F word and just asked the b-ball players to tone it down because there were kids around. Unfortunately the man was not flashing a gun while talking to these punks. Violence is all they understand.

Answer to this problem: Take down the hoops.

I did not mean it was THE not so nice part. I meant the MLK Blvd area a few blocks away was not the best place.

Sunrose is in a nice, well kept area with nice homes.

Take down the hoops is right. A few neighbors with a reciprocating saw should leave the poles on the ground.

Other neighbors should find out who did this and get the police to act. Otherwise everyone is the NEXT target of these hoodlums.

And since our idiot mayor made a political appointment to fill the vacant Lansing Police Chief seat, things like this are going to happen a lot more frequently. Szymanski is too busy supporting gay "rights" to get any actual policing done. That's why the south side is in the mess it's in.
