When President George W. Bush called for a kind of line-item veto four years ago, the top Senate Democrat said it was like getting a "bad sore throat," and the No. 2 House Democrat called it "a sham." On Monday, President Obama asked them to reconsider and pass something very like it, for his sake.

There is an easier and safer solution. Stop allowing riders to be attached to bills. Let them pass or fail on their own merit. If you exclude the line items you don’t need a veto to kill them.

Every president since Reagan has tried to get the line item veto and every time it is a Republican asking for it, the Dems swear up and down it is blatantly unconstitutional.

Why am I not surprised that the most despicable sleasebag ever to pollute the Oval Office, and I mean that seriously, wants it?

Now that is brilliantly simple and makes absolutely fantastic sense.

Why hasn’t it been tried before?

Seriously, I am curious.

Don’t give Obama anything. He’s power crazed as it is.

Thanks. But the reason they won't pass it is because it would remove the option of plausible deniability. Currently they can argue they voted for or against a bill based upon the riders. This would put them on record as for or against something without the avenue to obscure their votes. Now personally, I think that's a good thing...but I'm not a lying politician.

The two thousand plus page bills are doing what they are designed to do, obfuscate the real agenda behind the bills. If the legislators had to put every appropriation out on its own merits, they would not get around to these 2000 page abominations. Do you realize whom wrote the Tarp, who devised the ‘stimulus’, who wrote the ‘healthcare’ abomination? These weren’t written by the lazy democrats holding power. They written by the commies/criminals behind the scenes who stand to gain near invicible power without being exposed.

I “believe” that the line item veto power by the POTS was ruled unconstitutional by the supreme court (or some court ?). Obviously this should be checked.
