If you've never been, this is a lovely community with beautiful homes, but one in which I'd never live because I refuse to pay $7K - $9K (or more) in property taxes every year for the privilege of living in my own home. They have just approved a $113 MILLION renovation of their high school! (soulds like to make it "green" and ADA compliant!!!)
$15,000 per year per student
More or less than the group rate at a private school???
Teacher greed - the most powerful force in the universe.

Hey, it’s Rendel’s Pennsylvania.
With all due apologies to drunken sailors everywhere...
When I was a drunken sailor, when I ran out of money, I quit drinking.
PA is only about 5 to 10 years behind Cali in terms of its fiscal situation.
Reality is every school district and there are an insane number across the state have perpetually made completely unsustainable concessions in terms of retirement benefits for decades, and the state isn’t matching in the fund any more.... So guess what? EVERY SCHOOL DISTRICT IN THE STATE is going to be SOL trying to deliver on promises that should have NEVER EVER BEEN MADE!
PA School Teachers are the most overpaid and lazy group on the planet... yes I know there are good teachers out there, but as a whole, they work far too little are compensated far too much! Every opening has 100 applicants, don’t give me the teachers are under paid... put in 20 years retire with full pay and benefits for LIFE!! Yep, 55 year olds are retired in this state drawing 70k+ pensions and full bennies for life...
PA Needs an fiscal enema.
These school boards and unions are totally out of control.
Elementary School Music Teachers in the city of Pittsburgh earn 70K + per year. Don’t ask how I know... but, believe me I do.
Mt. Lebanon H.S. has a “Percussion Concert” every year.
They have at least 10 Marimbas which cost upwards of $10,000 each and require special air-conditioned trailers to haul around.
The concert is beautiful. Of course, if that’s what the citizens of Mt. Lebanon want for their kids, then it’s their call.
Driving through the community in 2008, I saw lots and lots of Obama yard signs. There are still lots of cars with Obama bumper stickers.
...”increased pension responsibilities...” Gee. Whatever could THAT mean? I grew up next to Mt. Lebanon. Beautiful homes and all of the taxpaying suckers to go with them.

Mt Lebo = pretentious riff-raff wannabees anat.
I’m in the eastern suburbs of Pittsburgh. Our school district spent $48M on renovations to the high school and are planning hundreds of millions for renovations to the elementary schools. Because of this, and anticipated payments to the teachers’ pension fund, the board announced that the local school real estate tax will have to increase by over 70% within 5 years.
