Former Rep. Simmons Suspends Campaign for Senate in Connecticut

Former Connecticut Rep. Rob Simmons announced Tuesday that he is suspending his campaign for Senate, just days after he lost the state Republican Party nomination to former World Wrestling Entertainment CEO Linda McMahon.

"We all felt strongly that I had the experience, qualifications and opportunity to be that Connecticut Republican Senate candidate," Simmons said in a written statement. "On this basis we set as an important goal to win the Republican nomination at the convention on May 21st. We fell just short of that goal last Friday.

Though Simmons initially said he would continue running against McMahon in the primary, he is "scaling back his campaign and releasing staff," he said in the statement.

Simmons' aides told Fox News that he is effectively dropping out of the race.

"Active campaigning will not continue," an aide said.

Maybe she could get Jesse Ventura to campaign for her (I imagine he's still under contract somehow...)

I don’t know McMahon’s stance on the issues, but all I can think of is Jesse Ventura’s tenure in Minnesota.

"Where is McMahon on the issues?"

She doesn't really say, which means she is probably pro-abort and pro-homosexual agenda.
Maybe she's about as conservative as Brown in Mass.
Too bad, I thought Simmons was a stronger candidate - at least she's not Chris Dodd.

She is certainly not the greatest candidate, but Simmons made a lot of enemies (he earned them, he's no good). Fortunately, if Blumenthal is the Dem, her unlimited financial resources will make a good ol' fashioned high profile negative campaign practical.

Who cares where she is on the issues. The choice is between her and the phony veteran. Remember, this is Connecticut, so don’t expect a hard core conservative.

“She doesn’t really say, which means she is probably pro-abort and pro-homosexual agenda.”

Maybe she doesn’t say because if she states that she is anti-abortion and anti-homosexual in a state like CT she is effectively out of the race.

Either way, she ought to find a way to come up with something better than not being Chris Dodd and not being Dick Blumenthal.

Check his website. He clearly says Simmons would be the better candidate.

Yeah, but her vote would still count and enough RINOS voting with the Demorats is enough to continue to destroy the country.

The objective is to vote in people who want America to succeed; not fail.

Find your own conservative candidates!!

For too long Republicans have waited until the party bosses choose.

That's why the tea party is growing stronger.

No more waiting!!

We found great conservatives.

Nobody is waiting for the Republican bosses.

They are coming in and hand picking their guys and working AGAINST Tea party supported and conservative grass roots candidates.

They would rather lose to a democrat than have a candidate who is not obliged to the party bosses.

It is a disgrace.
