Mugabe government's plans to reap benefits from 2010 soccer World Cup are not materializing.
Zimbabwes government is busy planning for spinoffs from the 2010 soccer World Cup, just three weeks away.
Zimbabwean officials are hoping that the huge soccer tournament hosted this year by South Africa will boost this neighboring country with tourists and training camps. But the benefits do not appear to be coming. Already one of the planned visitors, North Korea, has pulled out.
President Robert Mugabe's government is dreaming of an influx of tourists as international fans coming to South Africa for the World Cup extend their trips by traveling north of the Limpopo River to Zimbabwe. Here they would be able to see a magnificent array of wildlife in the countrys national parks, the mighty Victoria Falls and a sophisticated tourism infrastructure. The trouble is there appear to be few takers.
Zimbabweans ...blame the North Koreans for playing a notorious role in the Matabeleland Massacres of the 1980s. An estimated 10,000 to 20,000 Zimbabwean civilians lost their lives at the hands of the Zimbabwe Army's Fifth Brigade, a unit that had received special training from North Korean military advisors in brutal counter-insurgency tactics

On the rare occasions where North Koreans get outside the hell hole they live in, they will only go where there is food. They are really hungry. When they found out Mugabe threw out all the farmers a few years back and now Zimbabwe can’t feed itself, well, the decision was simple.
Vic Falls is worth the trip. Wish I knew how to post pictures on this forum.
If that ain’t the pot calling the kettle black (pardon me).
How bad is SA and Zim bomb bwa if even the NK’s think it stinks?
Zimbabwe is stupid to think they’re getting any benefit from this, SA might not even benefit from it
I here they made soup out of their soccer balls and shoes.
hear, not “here”—yeesh!
The racist liberal press is going to do everything they can to paint the SA world cup as a major success.
But its already a financial disaster.
Only about 1/3 of the tickets have been sold. Even many of the soccer mad African countries fans are staying home.
Watch the MSM try to paint it that they are victims of the world economy, racist whites, and every other excuse in the book, instead of the real reasons.
That SA has one of the highest crime rates on the planet, especially in the black on white violence category.
South Africa should be one of the most properous places on the planet, given their natural resources.
It was with the Afrikaners in change. With the fall of Apartheid, they should had split up South Africa into separate countries.
AND those tickets sold in Africa have been given a cut rate
You’re right, of course. Fortunately there a few of the British soccer writers who have been all over the stupidity of having the WC in SA right from the start, and they will no doubt tell it like it is.
What is the possibility that N Korea is planning a military action against S Korea & they don’t want any of their citizens out of the country?
I know that a european city is the front runner for the 2018 games (England, Spain/Portugal, Belgium/Netherlands, are all desperately trying to land it) as FIFA is now in a cycle where a euro country usually gets the games every 12 years but the USA is one of the lead contenders for the 2022 games, but also bidding for 2018 as well. Our bid is strong because we already have all the modern stadiums and visitor infrastructure already in place. Its also one of the safest countries to hold it at, and visitors will want to come. Attendance will be very high.
But Russia and Australia are pushing hard to get it as well.
Russia, Spain/Portugal, and England have been playing very dirty to get the games there.
Looks like Bagdad Bob has found a new job.
Welcome to our sophisticated tourism infrastructure!
Fingers crossed....
Been there, never again.
