Cox begins by telling us that he and some of his peers are concerned about their ability to provide quality care once the full effects of Obamacare take hold. He asks how much more abuse surgeons will take before they say “enough is enough.” He explains the meaning of the phrase “Going Galt.” (Spoiler alert – if you haven’t yet read Atlas Shrugged you may want to skip over that part and the next few sentences.) To those unfamiliar with Atlas Shrugged, the character John Galt was an engineer who decided to withdraw his talents from a collectivist society. He convinced the best producers to join him and they watched as the society collapsed without the producers who are the engines of the economy. The surgeon told me she was happy to have been able to have practiced while she could, but would not under Obamacare. She's maybe 50 years old....
English medicine has already experienced the phenomenon. Most of the really good British surgeons still practicing are in India and Thailand and American doctors will make the same moves, more likely to Central America and the Caribbean. Some of the little countries are already ramping up for the new Medical Tourism by making their laws friendly for freemarket foreign medical practitioners to set up and operate. The Philipines is doing that and publicizing it and Costa Rica, which already has medical tourists, is getting ready for more. The price of medicine for those who pay cash is much lower where the price doesn’t have to provide a handsome living for thousands of government and insurance bureaucrats and doesn’t have to support rapidly increasing hordes of emergency room “free treatment” parasites.
This anesthesiologist is doing it. I only work about three days a month now just to put food on the table and gas in the car. With no debt, I don't need more. If you don't earn it and you don't spend it, they can't tax it. Screw them.
yep, and many more are doing STRATEGIC DEFAULT, just walking away from their homes and telling the banks to STICK IT!
After all, the banks took TARP Funds and got into bed with the government so they are just fine, right?
Now, it’s time for the folks to WALK and become more financially discipline by paying cash for what they need only.
Credit Card companies can go jump off a cliff and so can the government and the banks many are saying.
I think doctors aged 50+ will cash it in over the next few years. I know I am. nobama is a fool and destroyer.
And if you do need extra money along the way, you can control exactly how much you want to work. Or have a garage sale and get rid of stuff that is no longer needed and/or important to you. Craigslist will become a good friend.
Imagine if ALL the real producers stopped producing. Maybe have to for a year or two. Time to starve out the non-producers and wealth redistributors. Think about all the welfare programs that would no longer be needed. Everyone left would want to work an honest living. And they would be capable of doing so, and appreciate other folks skills and training that make them useful too.
And we could starve out all the takers and the politicians. And the lawyers.
