Are you taking into account ALL of the taxes we pay?

Yes.

When you read the statistics in that article, it’s pretty plain:

NJ residents pay the highest overall burden (local, state and federal).

If you take out the federal amount and only count state and local, we pay the 10th highest amount.

In other words, our total tax burden is highest because we have a lot of rich people who pay high federal income taxes.Those people will pay high federal income taxes no matter where they move, if they can find a job that pays as much as they do in NJ. We pay more overall because we are more wealthy (if you’re simply counting income).
