South Korean and U.S. forces have raised by one notch the level of military alert against possible aggression from North Korea.
A high-ranking South Korean government source on Wednesday said the threat of North Korean provocation has risen as sanctions against North Korea take effect following the sinking of the Navy corvette Cheonan.
The source added the two militaries have raised the "Watchcon" (watch condition) level from three to two, which denotes "vital indications" of a security threat.
Watchcon is a five-stage surveillance system watching over North Korean military movements. The higher the level, the more spy satellites, reconnaissance planes and intelligence analysts are deployed on more frequent monitoring missions.
In addition, they also have +/-200 MLRS launchers within range that can launch @4,400 122mm & 240mm rockets into Seoul in each salvo, with a ten-minute reload time between salvos.
I served in the RoK for one year (2007) and I recall plans to move the headquarters out of Seoul and to the south. Anyone know how this is going?
Well, as they are announcing the latest American Idol results, the screen will go blank. That will be your clue to saddle up horsey....
Holy smoke!
You think this “balloon” is going up?
I wonder if China has a secret assassination plan ready in order to prevent that situation.
LOL! I said I could ride one, didn’t say I owned one. However, I do come from a long line of horse thieves...
So unless a sub gets thru, they probably don’t have an effective missile to detonate over the heart land...does anyone how deep in the US a nuke would have to go off for an effective EMP? In other words, could they do this over Alaska and effect all of North America?
I don’t know. I don’t trust those ChiComs one bit. I just read over on Drudge that “China may shield North Korea”.

I hope and pray that it doesn’t. I live and work just a few miles from Fort Knox and quite a few of my customers are soldiers stationed there. We have been discussing the Korea Situation for the past week or so and quite a few of them are concerned about the mental stability of ChiaHead.
I’m not far from you...in Louisville. My dad, a Korean War vet told me along time ago...we never finished the job and will be fighting them again. But who knows with Zero in charge.
My grandfather was a Korean War Vet (he was actually in the Korean Military Advisory Group, or KMAG, before the war broke out) and he always was of a similar opinion.
I doubt it.
That would require @2000 guns/launchers of 170mm-240mm. Those are very big guns indeed.
The artillery counts I have seen include ALL artillery, which is everything from mortars to ordinary field howitzers/multiple rocket launchers up to the heavy artillery/long range rockets.
Only the heavy stuff would reach Seoul proper.
Seoul martial artists kicked the crap out of wooden planks written with "North Korea" on it; and also had humorous effigies of Chia Pet. All in all, I would say a HUGE CROWD there today in downtown Seoul.

From Japanese TV.
The number of Koksan guns is not publicly reported, but it is reliably reported that North Korea has about 500 long-range artillery tubes within range of Seoul, double the levels of a the mid-1990s. Large caliber self propelled artillery pieces typically have a sustained rate of fire of between four and eight rounds per minute. This suggests a total rate of fire of artillery alone of between 2,000 and 4,000 rounds per minute. The DPRK's two hundred 240mm MRLs fire either 12 or 22 rounds, providing a maximum single salvo of no more than 4,400 rounds.
