We’ll be attending the Laying of the Wreaths ceremony to honor those who died defending this country.
In high school I once got int trouble on Memorial Day. I was tte Drum Line Captain and one of my duties was to call the cadence to keep us moving fast or slow. Well, it had been raining and was threatening to rain again as we marched from the last parade stop back to the shool.
The band uniforms were VERY expensive and old wool things (even in summer)that were''nt supposed to get wet. We were halfway back when lightning flashed and rain started to fall. We had bee marhcing slowly to a very somber cadence. Everyone loioked at me because we all knew hte uniforms would be ruined. So I made hte decision to step up to a faster cadence.
Boy did I get a new one chewed out when we got back! I can't remember exactly what but I had to serve some kind of punishemnt.
I laugh about it now but it made me fell pretty bad back then.
Of course today the bands play salsa music and up beat cadences on Memorial Day all the time!.
