How Obama Got Into Harvard
cashill.com ^ | 5/27/2010 | Jack Cashill

Two years ago I inadvertently began my exploration of the authorship of Barack Obama’s 1995 memoir, Dreams From My Father, with an inquiry into how Obama got into Harvard Law School in 1988.

In the summer of 2008, I was tipped to a story that the media were scrupulously ignoring. It involved the venerable African American entrepreneur and politico, Percy Sutton.

A Manhattan borough president for 12 years and a credible candidate for mayor of New York City in 1977, Sutton had appeared in late March 2008 on a local New York City show called " Inside City Hall."

When asked about Obama by the show’s host, Dominic Carter, the octogenarian Sutton calmly and lucidly explained that he had been “introduced to [Obama] by a friend.”

The friend's name was Dr. Khalid al-Mansour, and the introduction had taken place about 20 years prior. Sutton described al-Mansour as "the principal adviser to one of the world's richest men." The billionaire in question was Saudi prince Al-Waleed bin Talal.

According to Sutton, al-Mansour had asked him to "please write a letter in support of [Obama] ... a young man that has applied to Harvard." Sutton had friends at Harvard and gladly did so.

Three months before the election it should have mattered that a respected black political figure had publicly announced that a crazed anti-Semite like al-Mansour, backed by an equally bonkers Saudi billionaire, had been guiding Obama’s career perhaps for the last twenty years, but the story died a quick and unnatural death.

The books that might have shed some light on this incident have not done so. John Heilemann and Mark Halperin’s comprehensive look at the 2008 campaign, Game Change, does not so much as mention Percy Sutton.

The thing that gets me about all this is how somebody with no real power or influence comes to be so guided and helped by powerful people. I know this sounds crazy and I hate to say it but it seems evil, as if the real face of evil is behind it all. Either that or all this is just conspiracy nonsense and none of this saudi crap and all the other stuff is true?

I can’t tell you that. But I can tell you that Harvard has had blind grading since the 19th century.

” What I want to know is who is who is this “Northwestern University prof who wrote a letter of reference for Obama.””

I agree.

“Barack and Michelle are the culmination of affirmative action. Two people with average IQs (at best) who got into prestigious schools they were unqualified to attend “

Exactly.

From a letter Obama had written while president of the Harvard Law Review (HLR):

“I must say, however, that as someone who has undoubtedly benefited from affirmative action programs during my academic career, and as someone who may have benefited from the Law Review’s affirmative action policy when I was selected to join the Review last year, I have not felt stigmatized within the broader law school community or as a staff member of the Review.”

Just replace each comma with an "uhh" and that's the way the great orator speaks.

The question is how Obama got these kind of connections? His mother was a hanger on in radical left and Marxist circles, but unlikely had those kind of connections.

But her father may have had them. His roots in the radical community were old and deep -- going back to the time when these associations had to be kept secret.

Interesting. Cashill doesn't seem to realize that Michelle Robinson was admitted to Princeton primarily because she was the sister of their star basketball player, Craig Robinson.

MANY universities make special allowances in admissions for family members.

I remember Michelle stating that her high school counselor told her to NOT apply to Princeton, that her grades were awful, that she'd never be accepted, etc ---- it's been so long since I heard the original story, but I do remember that her acceptance into the Ivy League was due to her brother's earlier acceptance on a basketball scholarship.

Michelle got into Princeton because her brother was a star basketball player. Remember her brother is the coach at Oregon State and was fired until the school got millions in stimulus dollars. Then they resigned him.

“I can’t tell you that. But I can tell you that Harvard has had blind grading since the 19th century.”

Music schools usually have blind auditions for chair, where the candidates play behind a curtain. It’s largely a farce since the instructors know the sound of each person’s instrument as well subtle differences in style. It may be the same in written tests at Law school.

The gift that just keeps on giving.

Yes but WHY? WHY would a NY Mayoral candidates and Saudi Billionaire go to bat for an unknown, pot-smoking, intellectually uninspiring kid?

Good point. Which would explain why hawaii officials support that he was born there. No one is asking those officials who his father is. No one seems to be questioning that.

Pastor Manning has been trying to make that point. Critics discount him, but he has every right to ask for the truth, and the truth is not forthcoming.

Well, baraq admitted that he is just the idea guy. He is actually just an inexperienced salesman who is good at reading the speeches that are written for him. My conspiracy theory goes like this:
He was just another huckster from Chicago who muscled his way into the US Senate. Ok he was fairly harmless there. But someone took control of him after he made his speech at the dim convention. He was the perfect front man to be in the spotlight and was protected from everything by the imputed charge of racism. The media bought into the hype immediately and openly campaigned for him. He is the perfect guy for the dim party because he is a rubber stamp for anything that comes out of the dim controlled house and senate. They have been dying for this opportunity because now the loonies can now implement their maniacal control freak policies with them in charge. He couldn’t even speak to a bunch of elementary school kids without his teleprompter. What’s scary is that everyday this goof is in office, our enemies get a clearer picture of what a paper tiger he is. They were watching when calderon bashed Arizona’s law and bad mouthed the US in Washington and had no backlash from obama and actually got applause from the dim side. That event carried a very bad message to the world. Given the situation the world is in now, we need a president that is a cross between Reagan and Clint Eastwood, not the stupid slap chop guy.

It’s much more than that. Obama was guided, mentored and promoted by some of the worst people in the world. To what end? Why were they so interested in him? So invested in him? Why did they go to the trouble they did to get a below average student through Columbia and Harvard Law and on the Harvard Law Review? Why was his politcal career set on such a meteoric path?

“For what it’s worth, most law schools use blind grading.”

Obama graduated magna cum laude from HLS, which obviously requires a very high GPA. So I’m trying to reconcile the “dummy” version of him through his college years with the “brilliant” student who emerged at the back end from HLS. Unless their grading system is extraordinarily corrupt (e.g., black student grades automatically inflated one full letter grade in every course) or Obama engaged in an extraordinary level of cheating to get by, the magna cum laude cannot be easily dismissed.

Wouldn't have mattered. The American electorate already knew about Rev. Wright, Bill Ayres, et. al, but still elected this guy and gave him vast majorities in Congress. They would have elected Satan himself in 2008 to punish GWB and the Republicans.

Now all the wonderful, guilt-ridden, open-minded independents who put him over the top (and unfortunately all the rest of us as well) are starting to see what they created. It'll be interesting if they like what they see come November.

Bottom line: Had Obama’s father come from Kentucky not Kenya and been named O’Hara not Obama, there would been no Harvard Law Review, no Harvard, no Columbia. Barry O’Hara would probably be chasing ambulances in Honolulu and setting his political sights on the Honolulu City Council.

Exactly.
