“There is the rare possibility the casing could collapse.”

On another thread about suggested solutions there is talk of using a nuke in an adjacent well to “collapse” the casing downhole. The Russians have done that successfully in the past.

That should be considered an option to use the “relief well” hole for that purpose if (when!?) the relief well(s) don’t work. Of course they’ll probably drill a 12-inch hole for the relief well, and find out later that the smallest nuke package that could work needs 18-inches.

Thanks - it helped. Could a shut off valve be put in the original casing when the well is drilled - then if there's a problem a back up solution's in place?

That is the function of the blow out preventers and they failed for reasons unknown as far I can tell from reading.. I can’t think of anyway what your talking about can be done.

When our tin-pot dictator, who overthrew the legitimate government of this country, was over in Louisana this week, he kept refering to Secretary Chu as having a team of “experts” there working on the problem and kept repeating that Chu is a NOBEL PRIZE winner, like it made him a genius and could walk on water. obama obviously thinks the NOBEL PRIZE is a great achievement and we should be in awe. I seem to remember he also received a NOBEL PRIZE a couple of weeks after he took office. Therefore, I don’t think I’m too impressed with Chu’s credentials.

Southern Miss has been doing research on the Coast for years, at the Gulf Islands National Seashore, in Ocean Springs

Actually, it is Gulf Research Lab that works in concert with the National Seashore.

I love the park there. Great area for picnics, fishing, boating.

There is even a pet for the kids.

Smiling Charlie likes to be hand fed.
