BP's top kill effort fails to plug Gulf oil leak (OBAMA OIL SPILL GETS WORSE!)

BP admitted defeat Saturday in its attempt to plug the Gulf of Mexico oil leak by pumping mud into a busted well, but is readying yet another approach after repeated failures to stop the crude that's fouling marshland and beaches.

BP PLC Chief Operating Officer Doug Suttles said the company determined the "top kill" had failed after it spent three days pumping heavy drilling mud into the crippled well 5,000 feet underwater. More than 1.2 million gallons of mud was used, but most of it escaped out of the damaged riser.

There was a government press release today, listing the number of times the Washington meddlers have traveled to the Gulf. You could almost hear those eyeballs in Houston rolling.

Now, what’s BP using in the way of Golf Balls?

Titlists; Calloways: Nikes; Top Flites?

Maybe Zer0 can get an endorsement deal for all the time he’s spending on the course, while oil gushes!

“Daddy, daddy, did the Titlists stop the well, or did you send in the Nike’s.”

“Well yes Malia, Nikes proved to be better than the Titlists.

Now, Malia, would please close the bathroom door so I can finish taking my dump.”

What a great ad campaign!!!!

Thanks for posting. The con-man Barack doesn’t have a clue as to what to do and neither do his handlers. He is pathetic.

“In total, senior administration officials have visited the region 28 times since BP’s oil rig exploded on April 20—including trips by the President, National Incident Commander Admiral Thad Allen, Interior Secretary Salazar, EPA Administrator Jackson, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, Energy Secretary Steven Chu, Commerce Secretary Gary Locke, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen, NOAA Administrator Lubchenco and SBA Administrator Karen Mills.”

Just gives me that “warm all over” feeling.

Oh me too as to the professionals.

But, since he wants some of that actions, let him dive down and SIT his ASS on that hole, OR shut up as he has nothing to offer other than that.

FISH or CUT BAIT is what he needs to do, get out of the experts way and let them do what needs to be done.

Yeah, me too.

A bunch of Yankee cornholes came down and either took
a helicopter ride or spoke a paragraph or two in a hotel
conference room. Whoop-a-dee-do. That'll fix it all up.

People are working on this. The best people. Professionals.

The Yankee cornholes need to shut up and sit down.

Just my opinion.

It’s kind of entertaining watching them try to find some way to say “I’m here to take responsibility for the successes, but the failures aren’t my fault”, though. I wonder if they have a can of sand handy to make the “old soft shoe” easier?

Must be east coast sand, if they do.

All the Gulf Coast beaches are oil slicks, dontchaknow.

“Instead of trying to plug the leak with golf balls, they should have used ACORNS”

I’m thinking Lawyers they can/are blowhards.

Loved it when obama took full responsibility of the oil spill.( when he thought that it was under control)

I have talked to people who think the Obama press conference on Thursday was timed with the implementation of Top Kill when it would be in its initial stages, with the oil spill initially stopped.

The Three Stooges, The Keystone Cops, Laurel and Hardy, Abbot and Costello and Charlie Chaplin would have fared better.

Conspiracy theory time...

Is it possible that BP wants the flow to continue until they can finish drilling the relief wells?

If they succeed at stopping the leak, it will become a political nuclear bomb to re-open it and they lose the oil. On the other hand, if they finish the relief wells first, they fix the leak and also have access to the oil.

If the cleanup costs 10s of billions and the oil wells produce 100s of billions (pure guesses on my part), it could be a simple financial decision for them.

The pressure is beyond that experienced before and thought probable.

The pressure and continued gushing leads me to believe they have tapped the mother of all oil fields.

If the pressures are so high, you have to wonder what will happen to the BOP when the first relief well taps in. I would want a LOT of life insurance to be the driller on that drill rig.

It will be a real hat trick to start at mile beneath the surface, drill 18,000 feet to tap a 10” diameter pipe ... twice! NOT AT ALL CLEAR that this can be accomplished.

These very very very high pressures are the big issue here. Probably oceanic plate movement has placed much of the weight of said plate downward upon this oil field. Will this plate drop more as the hydraulic pressure of this oil field is drawn down?

I wonder why they don’t build another bell about 100 feet across, with a 40” diameter outlet pipe, to drop over the well head? Hell, they could add 3 or 4 outlet pipes .... a 20” a 30” a 40” a 50”.

They would need to let it free flow through the outlets until they dropped 50 acre feet of concrete on top of the bell.

The pressures at the bell outlets would be markedly reduced... 20” inlet (well head) and 20, 30, 40, 50 inch outlets, should markedly reduce the pressures.
Insert multiple small sucker pipes to draw down the pressure even further until they can cap all but one of the outlets. (They wouldn’t want to draw from all of the outlets... might drop the price of crude!) They may need to pre-install stylets on all of the outlets to guide grinders into place to grind off the methane cyro-precipitates that were a problem with the first bell.

They may need to drop 40 acres of concrete reinforced with scrap metal to patch the surrounding ocean floor. I’ve read that the material coming out is full of sand rock and debri and will be eroding the pipe.
My suspicion is that the extremely high pressures may force the oil out through fractures in the ocean floor.

This could be the reason they don’t use my idea... they NEED to cut the pressure from the bottom end to prevent a 10 - 100 mile diameter area on the floor of the Carribean that will seep oil for 500 years. A clue to this is WHY DO THEY NEED TO DRILL DOWN 18,000 FEET (!) to tap into the well?
All of the “failed” attempts so far may just be political cover maneuvers to keep the folks off of their backs.

This is a really really really big deal.
Not at ALL clear that August will be the fix. This broken oil well could be flowing this time next year.

No one saying what will happen to the air quality along the Gulf, the Midwest, and the East during hurricane season if some of this stuff is ignited. If we had any enemies in the world this WOULD/COULD be a worry.

.......you have to wonder what will happen to the BOP......

Before wondering about what will happen, I wonder about what did not happen.

I wonder what happened to prevent the BOP from closing off the riser pipe and holding the gusher.

I wonder if this well was the reason for not drilling elsewhere. That is,the possibility of a truly important new field negates drilling all over elsewhere until the magnitude limits are known and understood.

If it truly is a mega field, until it is fully known and understood, there is no desire to spend political capital exploring elsewhere.
