COLLEGE STATION, Texas- "The Burning Desire", the inspirational original documentary produced by Texas A&M Athletics 12th Man Productions, has been awarded 3 Telly Awards.

The Telly Awards are a television industry awards program which annually honor the very best local, regional, and cable television commercials and programs, as well as the finest video and film productions.

The Burning Desire received the Silver Telly, the highest honor, in the category of Editing and another Silver Telly in the category of Copyrighting. The overall documentary was also awarded a Bronze Telly to recognize excellence as a creative work.

The documentary chronicles the dramatic events on the Texas A&M campus in November 1999 when the Aggie Bonfire collapsed killing 12 students and injuring several others and how the rivalry football game days later with the Texas Longhorns became an emotional focal point for all affected.

A special Memorial Day weekend free view is being offered of "The Burning Desire" starting Friday May 28th through Monday May 31st. Click here to watch the 12th Man Productions 68-minute documentary in its entirety. The 10 year anniversary retrospective features 2009 interviews with both head coaches of the game, as well as Aggie players and those involved in the memorials, yell practices and tributes, as well as rescue and recovery efforts.

The 31st Annual Telly Awards received over 13,000 entries from ad agencies, production companies, TV stations, and other broadcast entities from around the world. Judges are top advertising and production professionals who are members of the Silver Telly Council.

The 68-minute documentary also has been honored earlier this year with one of the prestigious Gold REMI awards in its feature film and video documentary category at the Houston WorldFest Film Festival.

The two DVD set of The Burning Desire documentary and the 1999 Football game is available on-line at AggieAthletics.com or on campus at the University Bookstore in G. Rollie White with a portion of the proceeds going to benefit the Bonfire Memorial Fund.

In a state known for football, no game is bigger than the annual rivalry between Texas A&M University and the University of Texas. In its 106 year history, no game had more heartfelt emotion than the 1999 contest at Kyle Field.

On November 18th, just eight days before the game, the Aggies' traditional bonfire collapsed. 12 A&M students who were working on the stack tragically died, and several others were injured. Relive the eight days in November 1999 through interviews and retrospectives of those who were a part of a game week like no other in A&M history.

The University sponsored bonfire has been suspended since the incident. There is an unofficial one each year, but not near as big as the traditional one.

Thank you for the ping. To say that was moving would be an understatement.

I think about that week from time to time. The thing that strikes me most is the way UT (yes, it is hard for me to type it that way) acted throughout the week. My great-grandfather, my grandfather, my dad and I are Aggies. I’ve been watching A&M football games as long as I can remember. I have seen hundreds of half-time shows. I have only seen The Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band lose once... to Texas that day.

My son Andrew, Class of 2012, has been involved in “Student Bonfire” for the last two seasons, and will probably continue to be involved as long as he is attending TAMU. The “stack” no longer goes up more than one tier, it is built in a privately-owned pasture located north of town, and members of the Corps have been officially banned (by TAMU) from taking part. But you can’t keep Aggies from honoring their traditions, and alumni and other supporters continue to provide the land and the logs.
