Whitman Expands Primary Lead; Fiorina Pulls Out From The Pack

In the governor's race Whitman is 24 points ahead of Steve Poizner but 6 points behind Jerry Brown. GOP Senate hopeful Carly Fiorina has clear lead but moderate Tom Campbell fared best against Sen. Barbara Boxer. A recent L.A. Times/USC poll found that more people knew of Meg Whitman in May than in March, yet her favorability rating has stalled with less than a third of voters saying they think well of her.

After plummeting in recent polls, Republican Meg Whitman has regained her commanding lead in the race for governor over her primary opponent Steve Poizner, but their contentious assaults have helped reverse the general election edge she once held over Democrat Jerry Brown, a new Los Angeles Times/USC poll has found.

Whitman leads Poizner 53% to 29%, with less than two weeks to go before the June 8 primary, the poll found. But head to head against Brown, she trails 44% to 38%.

The former EBay chief executive, making her first bid for public office, led by 40 points in the last Times/USC survey in March. She then saw her popularity fall under a withering ad bombardment from Poizner, who has accused her of being too liberal on illegal immigration, struck at her failure to vote for much of her adult life and criticized her association with controversial investment bank Goldman Sachs. Polls earlier in May showed her with only a narrow lead. But she has rebounded thanks, in part, to a renewed ad barrage of her own.

In the primary's other highlight, the race for U.S. Senate, Republican Carly Fiorina has vaulted into a clear lead over her main primary opponent Tom Campbell, 38% to 23%. In third was Chuck DeVore at 16%. In March, Campbell had a narrow lead over Fiorina.

Is Steve Poisner really pro partial birth abortion?

I voted for Devore myself. By the way there have been virtually no adds or campaigning against Brown. After the primaries there will be a full on assult on Brown and then we will see how the poll numbers hold up.

Robert Newman? Who else is there for Gov? Whitman is pro-choice. No way she’ll get my vote.

That is a shame that Carly is in the lead. I know a lot of high tech people will not be voting for her ! I would also like to see Senator Ma’am voted out of office. Couldn’t ask for the worse people running for the CA senate seat.

Campbell runs his campaigns on a budget. He doesn’t have anywhere near the dough of Fiorina.

Are CA voters insane — how could they vote for Jerry Brown?!

“But in a general election contest against the likely Democratic nominee, Attorney General Jerry Brown, she trails 44 percent to 38 percent in a race she once led, the survey showed.”

Say “hello” to Senator Babs Boxer, about to be elected to her 4th term. Californians should be ashamed of themselves. Pisses be off that I live in the state.

Whitman’s campaign has called my home at least twice.

No other candidate has done so, as far as I know.

So yes, I expect her to have an effective campaign against old, tired Brown.

Whitman’s campaign has called my home at least twice.

Both Tom Campbell and Meg Whitman have left messages for me on my home phone.

I've also experienced a small avalanche of anti-Poizner literature from my mailbox (and it's probably from the Whitman campaign).

It is sad that we cannot be purists here in La La Land. We have to vote for ANYONE to beat the Dems. We cannot have another term for Dumb as Rocks Boxer. We can’t do Gov Moonbeam again. But I will have to take an anti-nausea before I can go in and vote for Whitman and Fiorina.

Whitman *is* a Democrat. Not a “moderate”, not even a RINO. She makes Scozzafava look like Michelle Bachmann by comparison.

The LA Times/USC poll is a left leaning poll. I would take its results with that in mind.

Poizner supports getting rid of the 2/3 requirement for the legislature to raise taxes; an important element of Prop. 13.

Without 2/3 the gate is open for tax increases without end. I hope he is attacked, for that.

Her campaign is effective. I also see a few yard signs, for her.

No yard (or window) signs for either Poizner or Whitman in my neighborhood.

I rather lose by voting for the pure conservative than win by voting for a not-so-conservative. Boxer will be better than either Campbell or Fiorina.

VOTE for DeVore!
