WASHINGTON A litany of half-truths, withholding crucial video, blocking media access to the site and a failure to share timely and complete information about efforts to contain the largest oil spill in U.S. history have created the widespread impression that BP is suppressing the facts about the April 20 oilrig blowout in the Gulf of Mexico , if not misleading the public and the government.
The government has been little better, for weeks blindly accepting BP's estimates of the size of the spill, all but powerless to force the company to curb its use of toxic chemical dispersants and ignoring warnings from its own officials about possible worker safety violations.
Most damning, say members of Congress , was BP's failure to release video that would help measure how much oil is being released from the broken well a number that will be key evidence when federal investigators and perhaps juries consider what damages BP should pay.
A government task force last week found that twice BP's original estimate and possibly much more has been spewing out of the well each day.

Looks like we are witnessing an oil spill ensnaring Rats in high places in the oBPama Tar Pits .. bitter irony or silver lining?
This article is just obfuscation crap to give their hero cover.
Since when did BO/BS have credibility?
I don’t think it will be long before those bozos Pelosi and Reid figure out that the only way to stop the leak is with another massive tax increase. Yeah! That’s the ticket! Another tax increase!
Stop giving them ideas!
Jeez, I've thought this way about Soetoro's regime since he was immaculated.
You’re right. I thought about that after I posted.
If BP didn't release the video, it's only because Obama wouldn't permit them to. After all, Obama has been in charge since day one....
LOL -- a post can be like Pandora's Box. Good comment though!
The Government and Navy have plenty of ROV's with cameras they could have sent down within a few days to see what was happening, if they chose to rely on BP, that's their fault.
What government creditablility. POTUS Barack Hussein Obama is a failed President across the board. Obama does not include creditability in his entire mantra or verbage. He is naught but a Chicago thug. Very few Democrat officeholders and candidates want his endorsement or appearance with them on the campaign trail. What to do about Obama? Impeach Obama, NOW!!! His Democrat Party is facing a bloodbath in the upcoming November, 2010 elections. I believe there is a move afoot inside the Democrat party to get Joe (The Dummie) Biden to resign from the VP slot, have Obama appoint Hillary Clinton as the new VP, and then Obama resign or be impeached and Hillary Clinton will become POTUS!!!
Not surprising that half-truths are being served up. The whole truth is that neither BP nor the US government knows how to fix this. Not many politicians or oil company execs have the balls to step up to the TV cameras and say “Sorry, but we’re screwed, and you’re screwed. We’ll try to figure out some way to plug this thing up, but we really have no idea if we can.”
I'd trust BP way before I'd trust THIS government.
...from DAY 1!!
If Sarah Palin was put in charge of getting this fixed on DAY ONE (thanks Obama), it would have been contained. I’d bet on it.
“...taking toll on BP’s and governments credibility.”
I assure you that there was no credibility BEFORE the “spill”.
I’m with you on that. Someone F’d up big time on this, but it is in BP’s interest to fix it asap. It is in Democrats interest to stretch it out as long as possible for political purposes.
No point whining about BP, O leftist media, when Obama just told us he’s been in charge since Day One.
The situation on the shore is going to get much worse.
