WASHINGTON – The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff is predicting that it'll be clear by year's end whether a NATO-led counterinsurgency effort in the Afghan Taliban stronghold of Kandahar is successful.

Adm. Mike Mullen says the Kandahar campaign, which is planned to go forward next month, is vital to turning around the war. He says the southern Afghanistan city is as important to the overall war effort as Baghdad was to the U.S. troop increase in Iraq in 2007.

Good sources requested.

1] What is our objective in this war? [what is ‘winning’ to us]

2} What is the Taliban’s objective in this war? [what is ‘winning’ to them]

Mullen appeared on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

I posted this off a blip of a wire piece I just saw. Cnn probably has video of what he said specifically.

as to your questions,,
1] What is our objective in this war? [what is ‘winning’ to us],
-I’m not sure, I thought it was to kick butt,, butttt,
2} What is the Taliban’s objective in this war? [what is ‘winning’ to them],,
-We withdraw like others who came , lost a lots of troops and gave up.

Thanks I am relieved that that they are not planning to take over the world as some have worried and we will get out after we kick enough butt. I think this can be worked out. When we get out, both sides will be winners!
