New Jersey business organizations are holding back support for a 20-state lawsuit seeking to overturn the new federal health care law though they agree with the suit's argument against mandated health coverage for all citizens.

The organizations have said they are not involved in the lawsuit or are still reviewing whether to support the National Federation of Independent Business, which recently joined a lawsuit by governors and attorneys general who argue the new health care law is unconstitutional.

The legal action was filed in Florida by attorneys general and governors from states including Florida and Pennsylvania but not New Jersey. The NFIB signed onto the suit in mid-May, saying it was prompted to do so by its members.

These businesses are more interested in the bottom line than the liberty of the American people. Disgraceful. And it will eventually come back to BITE them.

Given his tough stands on budget and tax policy, it’s surprising that Chris Christie hasn’t insisted that NJ join this suit. It would help cement his reputation as someone willing to stand up to the efforts of a minority to commandeer vast amounts of resources even in the face of majority opposition.

"We're not at a point in time where we are prepared to jump on board," said Jim Kirkos, president/chief executive officer, "because so far, the reviews have been mixed" on the law. Two committees are debating whether to join, he added.

Kelly Conklin, a member of the executive committees of the New Jersey chapter of the Main Street Alliance and the national organization and owner of the architectural woodworking business Foley-Waite Associates in Bloomfield, said the NJFIB would do better for its members if it worked with the federal government to make the law's subsequent rules easy and simple.

"This is the law, try to make the best of it, be aware of its shortfall, and create amendments or a new law to correct the problems," said Conklin.

This is as close as the article comes to naming the backsliders.
