The bullet from that 'mouse gun' has more energy at 150 yards than a .45 ACP does at the muzzle. And a ball-peen hammer at full swing has even more (1/2 mass x velocity squared= force).
.22 FMJ rounds can be deadly. But not as deadly as .30 FMJ rounds traveling at the same velocity. For range (beyond 200 yds), penetration through material like cinder blocks, and first round kills, I'd like a cartridge that is actually adequate and legal for shooting deer. Goes double when the deer are shooting back.

I think he is comparing the .223 to the much better .308 (7.62 X 51), not a pistol round.
